This is a round T gas tank with some logo on it. It appeared in an old parts counter photo. Any guesses what they are advertising? I would like to include it in a painting but can't imagine what it says (besides Ford) or what colors it would have been.

A Firestone sign is sitting on top of it.

It kind of resembles the Ford Emergency Kit inner tube repair kit that came in the tin box.

Could that be a carbide generator for the running board with Ford logo?

I think you are correct and it could be a large advertisement display for the repair kit

Do you have the full photo so we can see it in context?

Could it be a trash bin?

Bobdrake.com has a photo of this. Yellow with orange stripes. The black and white photo appears to have something additional painted/written on it. Maybe price? 40 or 99 cents?

I'd vote for the yellow display the thin bands around the drum are key markers. Maybe the price is maked 90cents?

Back then, to draw attention to their displays, vendors were a little more fancy in the writing embellishments of their advertising. Since the price on several of the original cans show is in the same location as the writing below the Ford script and the number “4” is the closest character to resemble the pointy top character, and is very close to the price of a tire repair kit, I naturally assumed it said 40 cents. Of course I may be wrong, as often I am, but it makes the most sense to me. Jim Patrick

I'm inclined to agree now. I can almost see the ¢ sign and can't figure out what else it could be. It's a clever use of the round tanks. Do you suppose they were using up a surplus when the oval tanks came out? Would this date the photo to the round tank era?
Each answer brings up new questions it seems.

Ford Parts and Price list has two tire patch kits, #7962ARX Tire Repair Kit for $ 0.40.

And the tiny one, #7962BX Tire Repair Kit Small, for $0.25.

The tiny one comes in the Ford Emergency Kit, with metal box, sold for $1.50.

Thanks Dan. Those are cool pages. I was pleased to buy an old well worn tin like that years ago. I need to fill it with the proper items. I wonder how well the light bulbs survived bouncing around in the tool box.

I believe is says 40¢.

I also believe it designed specifically as a countertop display case, and it is NOT made out of a gas tank.
A round gas tank is 28" long. (Or tall if standing on its end.)

Got one of the Ford Emergency Kits this spring. Just has some shelf wear, but the insides are NOS!

Plus this old J&J kit, missing most of the doodads, but still had the large cotton bandage, with silkscreen to show how to fold and bandage any part of the body!

I had not seen the bandage before. A friend of the family vividly described the plate glass shards coming at them from a rock through the windshield. It was a memory that stayed with him. Those bandage no doubt saved lives and stopped bleeding.

I agree with Keith - too small to be a gas tank.

Ha Ha. I've been looking at that picture for a week now and it didn't occur to me that the container was smaller than a gas tank. You are right though. The ribs are so similar it faked me out. It's nice to have someone else's perspective on these things.
Back to the drawing board.

I’ve been following this post with interest and think that it’s not a gas tank. Looking at it closely it seems to be made in sections or separate pieces and then put together going by the 3 ribs.
Gas tanks didn’t have those type of ribs.
Don’t think many of those are around. Neat item and hard to find for sure.

Not to be argumentative but the tanks did have similar ribs to what I think I see. I thought the ribs in the display version would hold the shelves. I see what you mean by sections. With the lack of paint on them I can imagine them being the bottoms of sections now. Wouldn't it be interesting to see an actual one in more detail?
