Today I replaced the ignition switch in the Coupe. The old one had worked a few weeks after cleaning but got worse last week. The one at right in the upper photo goes well with the car. It was 30° in the shop and the screws were a bit tricky to install but it finally went together. One headlight was dim but twisting the post gave it a better ground.

I finished rebuilding 3 switches so I am in good shape for a while.

Finishing up building a ZOOM ZOOM engine and still working the dual exhaust for Danny Deaton.

Not much yet, but will be keeping an eye on Hanks post. Me likes zoom zoom engine

Installed RM brakes I got from Hank, on the 26. While its too sloppy out to drive and do all the adjustments on the brakes, I started a job that will make it more of a truck with a working tailgate. A fun project inside in a heated shop this time of year.

I lit my headlights. It was exhausting.

Continued to work on rebuilding 20 Holley NH carbs. Seventeen finished and three stubborn ones to go.

Finished the engine and transmission installation on my stock 1914 speedster as well. Ready to do the rear axle and the driving shaft restoration by now. Great thx to Hank for parts, support and advices.

Just finished the new coil repair workshop.
Just in time for a Winter Special.

Tonight is night three of installing an Anderson manifold and Stromberg OF
to the Old Dog. Night One got the old manifolds off, areas of concern cleaned
up, and the new carb and manifold installed. I discovered the source of the
exhaust in the cab was about 1/3 of the head pipe flange was broken away
and gone. This offered up a new challenge of making a new flange, but a gas
wrench and some peening made short work of it. I discovered the pipe has
been rubbing on the radius rod, so I did a little more "orange work" and stepped
the pipe up and over it with a loose "Z" bend. This also led to shortening the
hanger a bit and cutting off a long tail of material that some lazy person didn't
bother doing many years ago. It all went back together neat and tidy. Got a lot
done on night one.

Such was not to be repeated for night two. The whole night was spent refitting
my fuel line. Exactly eleventy-thousand times I had to climb under the truck and
out to finally get it, but it is a nice, clean fit and doesn't rub on the frame like
it had been doing. The bad news was I came up needing a new ferrule at the carb
end, and so I picked that up today.

Tonight's mission is to finish attaching the fuel line and building a choke control.

I am already eager fo spring weather !

Hank, I was always told that the exhaust pipes have to be equal length from the exhaust manifold to the muffler when fabricating a duel exhaust system. I may be wrong, I usually am, but opposing comments welcome, or explanations to prove me wrong. Frank

Today I parked my 1925 Pickup in our new garage. I can finally walk around it from all angles without feeling crowded![/size][/b]

I removed the gas tank from the touring car. It has developed some weeping on the bottom where the sediment bowl attaches. I found a repair shop near me that is willing to fix the weeping area I also removed the right front fender and pounded out a dent that I put in 30 years ago.

Now awaiting for high tide and time to build the period correct trailer, all metal cut and ready, just finding the time with other priorities.

That thing looks great Hank ! The brass and that jewel hanging off the back really pops. Cant wait to see the period trailer. You have been busy.

Yesterday I drove my Model A to my winter storage. There I parked it and started my Model T and drove that back home to my shop for it’s annual safety check and maintenance. A distance of 8 miles one way. This is in Minnesota in January. Never have driven either before in the winter. Roads were dry and clean.

I am installing the rear seat assembly in my 18 touring project.

I've done nothing to her, she is still sleeping waiting for spring . With the nice weather we have been having I am tempted to take her for a spin. My front end parts are over due so my front axle project is on hold.

I do hope that engine will be married to that frame as is! A rusty nuts with big ball's restoration. I like that!

Got radiator tested and fixed, cleaned the timer, drove it in the field this evening.

I installed a new battery today. Next is to get the generator fixed and fix the left rear wheel. Then to get the top installed.

Today I made the insulators that go between the coils and the ring. I don't really understand their function, but I see them in original mag rings so I'll use them.

Coils wrapped with fiberglass tape and sprayed with four coats of insulating varnish.

The Colonial Roadster progresses with thanks to Chris and Luke.

Panel beating to rebuild the rear deck, scuttle and seat quarter panels under way. Guards rebuilt - bent to shape (;-) ) and patched and welded and dollied and did I say bent to shape?

So far this is what she looks like:

Pulled the hogs head and bands, and see why the magneto never worked. Also made sure I got the shims when removing things.

Those are some big mufflers! Do recommend them over tractor supply variety on your speedster?
Santa brought me a dual outlet manifold so I've begun planning my new system. I think I'd like to have both tailpipe on the passenger side.

I haven't done a thing except wait for my engine to be rebuilt. Hopefully in 3 months +/- I'll be back in business.

They are a cross tube in design but have an awesome sound. Made these some years back.

Started on wood around coupe windows since it screws into the B pillar. Need to do that before I can install the B pillar cover.
I might try wood filler on the original left side because the holes are stripped, instead of making another from scratch.
Slotted wood screws are on order. So have plenty of time to cut and sand this 30 year old piece of pine.

I'm rebuilding my front suspension. My left spindle is worn on the top surface as if it was used without a bushing. It looks thinner than my right spindle.

This is the left. I mic'd the spindle, axle yoke and new bushing shoulders. It looks like there would be a gap of .010" that needs to be filled to make the spindle fit. My plan now is to press the upper bushing into the spindle as it would normally fit. But, I will add a brass spacer on the lower bushing between the shoulder and spindle body. I have .030" brass sheet to make a washer. That should be thick enough to allow final fitting of the spindle to the axle, I hope.

Tore it down at the end of Dec. Started putting it back together in Jan. A few short trips in the A as well

I put a new fuel shut-off above my tractor supply sediment bowl. I'll be installing my dual-outlet exhaust manifold soon.

Made a steering wheel rim for my T. I have a 15" diameter wood rim wheel but the finger joints are in poor shape and have been badly repaired. I decided to make a 16" wheel (I had the spider already) so I glued some plywood together. I shaped it with a rasp and sandpaper and now I'm in the process of priming it and sanding it. I'm planning to paint it black when I'm done.

Wife and I made new rear window brackets from stainless. Exact same bracket is used in side window.

The car lives! Engine was rebuilt a couple of years ago then stored. Started right up and we had an interesting drive at midnight dodging trees by the light of a dim flashlight - but hey - we just HAD to (Yes, we did use the traditional upended boxes for seats too).

Haven't posted for a while. Laid the frame for the '18 on jack stands in October and have been assembling the chassis since. Engine, front end. rearend all in. Hoping to go for a Chassis ride next month. Received special dispensation from the Chief Judge to leave the wood firewall natural with a varnish coating. Hopefully the body on soon. More to go before up and running an. For the inquisitive, Bad Larry is my younger brother's '55 shoebox that runs 12.5 @108 in the quarter mile. George

I replaced the reproduction brass windshield clamps Roth original ones. I’ve got the original bolts and nuts but I’ve got them with other items I need to have brass plated. I had to redrill the holes, I filled the other ones in Roth dowel rod. At some point I’ll need another dash when I get all the original hardware and then I can get all the holes just right.

Just started a little transmission repair:

Because the flywheel has a bad triple gear pin I am balancing up my spare until parts arrive. Recheck balance after drilling: Low drum shows a bit of damage: D.D. does the sniff test to select the replacement transmission: Here the reverse drum is ready for balancing:

When the triple gear bushings are inserted into the triple gears they will be balanced on the triple beam balance (not shown).

Today I installed the contact on the mag ring. Not having an odd size long rivet like the original, I put it on with a machine screw. I'll put a nut on the back, trim off most of the screw, and solder the nut to keep it in place. A solder blob will go over the top screw for the mag post to stab. Can you believe that little copper washer cost 57¢? Amazing.

The strip schould go directely on the insulating block, I use a coilbox insulation washer between the strip and the block.
Drill the washer so that the head of the screw will go in it but just can't get through the washer. Assure it all with a blub of solder.

I think the way you do it the contact spot will be too high.

Here is an other photo. This time it is a picture of a coilring I bought in 2003 at Snyders for the rebuild of a 1914 runabout early 2003.
The photo was taken during the second rebuild of the car in 2016 after it was underwater for 3 days.

The washer that should be adapted to the screw head is the copper one not the coilbox insulation washer.

Well..., Started the period correct boat trailer with an adjustable axle carriage. Been collecting them parts for some years!

I finally got all the bits and pieces made for the TT screen sides. The special 3/4 X 3/8 Bar channel finally came in,.....so I[ am now ready to start assembly of the doors and sides.

What a great project Donald. Lots of photos and maybe a thread on your build I hope.

Should finish up wrapping the coils either tonight or tomorrow. I sure hope they will fit the poles/cores. I’ve a hunch I may have made the mandrel slightly too small. I won’t know until I get a usable stator ring.

Finished the steering wheel. Turned out pretty good and cost me nothing but time and materials I had in the garage already.

Installed leather straps on the hood.
