Building an engine with an external mag and I have found some competing info on the forum concerning slingers. What do you think?

I have driven my Speedster for 40 some years without them. If I had the engine apart today I would add some. They can't hurt but mine has done fine without them for 15-20,000 miles.

I have tore several engines down that did not have them and the wrist pins where blued from not enough oil getting to them.

If you are removing magnets you should look into a ring to keep the triple gear pins from backing out. The magnets do this when they are there. I have not had any back out, but have heard of them doing it. Dan

Here is what Dan is referring to. Also a different version of oil slingers that work quite well.
Been using these for years and I moved away from simply using spools and bolts to insure good oil circulation for both the engine and transmission. The ring might be a belt and suspenders approach for the triple gear pins, but its hardly worth the risk anymore in my opinion. From other postings regarding flywheel balancing, this is a pretty typical balance correction, and this is on a later fully machined style flywheel.

Nice! While I was reading this I was wondering who came up with only 4 paddles, thinking it would throw things off, then Dan shows the above. (I am not talking about a balancing the flywheel)
