So, I believe my 23 has been upgraded with a newer tranny. It has the large brake drum, and the hogshead has the screw in mag post. However, it still has the small pedals. Looking at the hogshead, it appears that the mag post area has been welded. Would it have been common to replace the boss of the mag plug, or is the welded boss just the way the were? Thanks..Tommy

Appears someone 'modified' that 26-27 hogshead, changed the pedals to earlier, and then ground off the 'lugs' on the top of the hogshead that would allow the 26-27 to mount to the rear of a 26-27 block. Did this to keep the look of a pre-26 hogshead.

You have to run a ‘26/‘27 hogshead with a wide brake drum because the pedal shafts have different spacing. You can, however, use earlier pedals in the ‘26-‘27 hogshead. There may be some customization involved with the floorboards, or bending the pedals, but it depends on what combination you are trying to obtain.

I was reading about the differences and the "ears", on the 26/27, which I wasn't sure what they were talking about, now I know. I do have the wide band and the small pedals, so all your info lines up with what I have. Thanks again. Tommy

With the wide drum transmission you probably also have a 4 dip pan. Since the ears on the hogs head are not being used it is probably a good idea to check for pan support brackets on the bottom side of the pan in the corners. Many Ts have run without them, but without the support from the hogshead ears they are a good investment to keep your pan straight.

I do have the 4 dip pan. I don't think I have any support brackets. Are they visible from the outside?

Yes, they are bolted onto the bottom front corners of the crankcase - one on each side held on by 4 of the block to c.c. bolts.

Original pan support brackets are pretty easy to come by but you can also buy them new.
