Stevens T-120 DUPLEX Gear Puller, help needed.
So I was fortunate enough to walk this out the front door of someones Ebay store without anyone stopping me (labeled as a Stevens Mystery Tool). Overall, in excellent condition, not beaten up or damaged in any way, just the normal problem that I have always had when it comes to finding/buying tools like this over the last 60 years, something always needs repair or a part is missing. This time was no exception, it is missing the ring.
As far as missing parts go, this one will not be too complicated or difficult to replace. If anyone that might have one of these would be able to post a photo or 2 of the ring and maybe some measurements, that would be greatly appreciated. In particular, the ID of the ring (OD of the puller is 3.468" at the machined surface, so I am thinking the ring would have a 3.500" ID). How does the ring "fit" over the machined surface (slip/clearance fit)? What is the material thickness of the ring? I would think the ring would match the height of the machined surface, so 1.500" in height? And lastly is the outside of the ring knurled in any way? In some photos it looks as though it is and in others it looks as though it is not. Any help that anyone might be able to offer with photos or dimensions is greatly appreciated.

Would a piece of exhaust pipe slip over it? Most muffler shops can expand pipe to about any size.

That is what I was thinking, just any type of round tubing with a decent wall thickness. The fit of the collar isn't important, just to keep the two pieces together as the gear is pulled. The KRW type uses a big hex stock, turned with i.d. to fit over their version. The hex provides a way to lock the tool with wrench or vise to keep it from twisting.

Hi Pep, So you are the guy who beat me to the "mystery tool" , You beat me by seconds ...... and it was a "buy it now" steal. Congratulations, "well played".
I do not have that tool So I can not give the measurements. I would look for a piece of pipe that could be machined to fit over the halves. You will want a good "slip fit" probably .005 to .010 would be good. You want it as close as possible and still easily slide over the halves. Also I would think it needs to be at least 1/4 inch thick.

Thank you. Once I saw it, I could not hit the Buy It Now fast enough. Even for a generic puller the price was a steal.
I agree about the slip fit and my thoughts (before posting) were going along the same numbers as what you posted (0.005" to 0.010"). I am still very interested in seeing what an original will come in at for an ID to help confirm. They definitely put in the work to machine the OD and the mating surfaces of the 2 halves, definitely not made on the cheap. The outside machined surface comes in at 3.4684" to 3.4688" depending on where you are along the outside, so 3-15/32", my guess is that the ring would be 1/64" over for clearance and that would put it right around 0.0075", splitting that 5 to 10 thousandths. This has been the best photo that I have been able to find (from the old Forum):
You can see in the photo above that the ring sits just about flush with the lip along the bottom, maybe a little bit proud, and the lip is 3/16" wide. I do not think that "over-building" something like this is a bad thing (1/4" thick material), I just want it to be as close and correct to the original as I can make it. As far as the knurling is concerned, I can only count 7 lines so pretty coarse, just something for you to grab and get a grip. Again, any and all help and information is appreciated.
Like I had said earlier, in 60 years I do not think that I have ever gotten a "complete" tool or set, everything always had something missing or broken. The best I ever did was 2 complete sets of Keystone reamers for the Model T and a complete KRW generator stand, with ALL of the little-fiddly bits, and that was mid-1960's. Thank you all for the posts and help, I am sure someone has one out there to share some photos of.

Every so often I do an eBay search of Stevens tools, must have missed that one!
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

The ring is 3.485 ID, 3.835 OD and 1.255 tall.
The slug used to pull the trans gear is .760 tall, 1.560 wide, .312 tall at the first step and .975 wide at the top.

Thank you for posting the photos and dimensions (especially the slug/spacer for the transmission gear), it is very much appreciated. You also pointed out a typo I made and will now correct (4 instead of 3, not sure why I did that but thank you).
So it would look as though 1/64" for a clearance fit is about right and we are looking at 3/8" thick material for the ring and a bit shorter than I thought (not by much). The photo that shows the "knurl" is very helpful. Again, not a complicated piece to make, I just want it to be right. If anyone has any other example to post, any and ALL information is welcomed and helpful.
One question just came to mind, is the ring hardened?
