The average high that time of year is 70ΒΊF, but the average low is 46ΒΊ, so bring your warm jammies. :)

We took the Verde Canyon Rail trip back in Oct. '99. Was a real nice trip. Popular also, the train was full.
You pretty much need to make reservations at least a week in advance.

Sounds like a good time. I will be watching for more information. Mapquest said that it is 3 hours 14 minutes from my house, so that would be a good tour for me to attend.

It looks like you are exactly halfway
between Tucson & Benson.

I have a nice motel I like to
stay at just south of Benson
on the way to Tucson.

Jim, How do I sign up? Bakersfield does not look good at this time, however that could change. I have been playing with Model t's since 1955,and need to get rid of tons of parts. This looks like good to time of year for a swap meet. Thanks, Ted - t cruiser

Hi Ted πŸ‘‹

Bakersfield Swap Meet has been cancelled.

All of Kern County Fairgrounds scheduled
public events have been cancelled thru
at least June of 2021 because the facility
is serving the community as a
COVID Care Center.

The rental fee for vendor spaces is being
determined by combining:

The facility rental fee.

The cost for a certificate of liability insurance
required by the rental facility.

Other misc hard costs.

The more vendors that attend - the lower
the cost will be per vendor space.

As soon as those costs are set - that information
will be posted here and a reservation form
will be made available online to be downloaded
and printed out.

Reservation forms will also be mailed
out to those requesting them.

Sounds like it will be a great swap meet, but what made Bakersfield special was it was pre WWII only, with a LOT of Brass era (pre-16) stuff everywhere. What other west coast swap meet could you go to with THREE different vendors specializing in Steam Car parts?? And then there were all the neat early vehicles either on display or for sale. Plus, I could drive home afterwards by dark!
T'ake care,
David Dewey

Hi David πŸ‘‹

Yes - Bakersfield Swap Meet is great.

But - it isn’t happening this year.

This thread is about a different swap meet
in another state that is being planned for
October of this year.

Let us keep the comments on track regarding
questions and updates on this event.

Thanks πŸ‘

Why in November? Isn’t any months open that have better weather than November is likely to deliver?

I spent a night there last November. Light frost on my pickup in the am and a drop dead glorious day. This will be Veterans Day weekend I believe.
I do want to attend, but I doubt if I can gather enough stuff to vend there. Ate at JT Bistro, the food was wonderful and the staff was friendly and entertaining.

Hi Bill πŸ‘‹

You have the Spring & Summer to build
up your stock πŸ˜‰

I went to high school in Cottonwood.

My first job was in Sedona at
Biddle Outdoor Center.

I bought my first car from a New Age Lady
in Sedona - got my drivers license in Clarkdale.

I have lived in Cornville - Cottonwood
Sedona - Village Of Oak Creek - Flagstaff.

I have been to just about every corner of
the lower (48) states - there is nothing
quite like The Verde Valley 😊

Here is a still image from a video that
I took last year of Camp Verde from
I-17 as you head south up Copper Canyon.

881012DE-E6F9-44C2-A07D-5942149EFA15.jpeg

For folks that like to hike - there is a loop
trail with a waterfall- about 4 feet miles long
that runs close to the freeway.

Original post removed by author.

Many Californians support Jim and Miss Montana on this November swap meet and those of us who can will plan on attending. We just think that it will probably be too cold to climb up to those higher elevations (that surround this event) driving in open Model Ts. So, we abandoned our homegrown touring plan.
Just to clarify, this was an idea on our part.

See you at the swap meet, it should be fun.

Tack On Tour Idea

Jim,

Since out last exchange I have tapped all my Arizona T connections. As it turns out, my "open car" November Camp Verde Tour idea was ill-conceived. I have since learned that the tour destinations that we would want to go to are all at higher than 4,000 ft elevations. Although this will not be an issue for V8 era cars or even those Model As attending your Brass To Class event, ...our open 20 hp Model T Fords and their occupants would struggle under these chilly conditions. Therefore, we still support what you are promoting but don't think it wise to tack on a complimentary Model T tour in that area at that time of year. I hope no one is too disappointed.

See you there, ...in our modern cars.
-
Just To Clarify.

This was an idea on your part.

The original posted itenerary has not changed.

An organized tour taking advantage
of the timing of this event by any
outside organization - whether it
be a for profit private entity or
a non profit club or organization
is a separate venue.

Anyone contemplating planning a
Verde Valley Tour should pay a visit
in person and drive the route
they plan to take cars on first.

Where did the Bakersfield thread get put? Since this swap meet is not sponsored by a MTFCA chapter should it be moved to off-topic?

Andy
This Gathering Is being sponsored by
The Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum
in Auburn, Indiana.

That was disclosed in my first post.

The reason for this is when you rent a facility
to host an event - the facility requires a
separate high dollar limit policy to be issued
for the event - this policy is often equal or
greater than the facility rental fee.

I have paid the facility rental fee deposit
out of my own pocket - I am donating it
to the event proceeds.

The Annual MTFCA Homecoming & Swap Meet
is held on MTFCA Owned Grounds that abuts
public parking area.

A BOD Member can weigh in on this - but I believe
there is no additional liability policy needed
for events held on premises.

Then we drove out to the venue site
where I spent an hour studying the
(39) acre site and took several videos.

As Sunday progressed - I learned my
co-founder had plans to base this event
around a Friday Veterans Day Local
Celebration and a Saturday Car Show.

This was envisioned by me to be an
early automotive swap meet.

The vendors and their customers are not
traveling a great distance and spending
money for other endeavors.

So - I am proceeding on this alone.

I have reached out to a few Anchor Vendors
for their input on our plans & shared the
videos I took today with them.

I am welcoming vendor feedback for
the next few weeks to improve on my plan
for vendor layout & onsite camping.

After that - a registration form will be
drafted and discussed - a web page will
be established - advertising will begin.

This new approach is intended to have
Vendors and their Patrons have a
successful event πŸ‘

Been to Jerome a few times. It truly is "perched" on the side of a hill. A STEEP hill. it is a fun place to explore and full of history.

Way to go Freighter Jim.
It looks like it is taking off. Events like this are good for our hobby and have become few and far between. Thank you for putting it on. I will be looking forward to attending. I know it can't be easy. Best of luck as you and your team refine the plan.
