Winter drive today

Post by Chris Bamford » Mon Feb 08, 2021 1:10 am

Three cars out for a 30 mile urban loop with warm-ups at each end. Weather started out a balmy -23°C (-9°F) and warmed all the way up to -21. No mechanical mishaps, young Jay got his first taste of winter T driving and nobody froze their butts off (fingers and toes, yeah a little...) A pretty fun day, all things considered.

That would have been fun. Up where there is no salt on the road. I wonder if my cars would start? Garage is not heated.

Chris, great to see you guys are still getting out.
Real top down weather here in Alberta.
Temperature was close to the same here in Calgary yesterday

Wow, I'm impressed! I too get out for winter drives when the weather allows & the temps are not too low. Too low for me being low 40sF!

Are the winter fronts shown in the pictures made from cardboard?

I thought 10 F. was cold enough sunday for a short drive. You guys got me beat by 20 degrees! Hats off to all the cold weather diehards. I just couldnt wait any longer for my T fix.🥶

Well I am certainly happy y'all got out and enjoyed it. The guy with the red nose and face looks mighty cold. With all due respect I don't share that kind of driving enthusiasm! But to each his own! Keep on rolling!

It was fantastic getting out with the Ts yesterday. I'm thankful for the club members who are indifferent to virtually all weather conditions. It's just a car driving in winter. Nothing more ;)

Much more fun than a football game, I might add.

Tim, if you thought my face looked bad there, here it is riding back home in the T with the cut-down windshield.

Somebody posted a video on YouTube of two of you going through an intersection:

Like Edmonton, here in Minneapolis it's -9 F and we also have a Ghermezian Brothers megamall but we're keeping the Ts in the garage.....

Thanks for all the comments. Yesterday wasn’t the coldest I’ve driven this car, but it’s getting down there.

David: my touring is kept in an unheated stall sharing a wall with the workshop. Air temperature in there was -7* C yesterday and while it started OK there was some reluctance.

Paul: yes, cardboard. It would be fun to find a ratty vintage carton with a period text or graphic and make a more interesting rad cover.

Erik: thanks for posting that dash cam video. All the years people have been taking videos and pictures of the Ts out and about, this is maybe the first time I’ve seen one of ‘em online!

Correction: contrary to what I wrote in the original post, the black car is Jay’s and yesterday was far from his first winter T driving. That’s actually Ryan in my touring having his first go on packed snow.
