4th main Ruckstell shifter

I'm putting a Ruckstell in out 23 touring car. I will use the regular Ruckstell 4th main shifter. In two of our other cars, the shifter had a thin piece of metal that is in the same configuration as the cast piece that bolts the shifter to the fourth main. This piece of "tin" goes on the opposite side of the fourth main cast piece. What does the tin piece do, other than maybe help with installation? The shifter I am rebuilding does not have the tin piece and I'm not finding that piece for sale in catalogs. I've not seen that piece in other installs and was just curious . It must not be needed hence no part is listed.
Thanks

Does your Ruckstell shifter with the double clamp look like this? It may provide a clue as to its origin.

That's the piece for trucks?

I have one on mine. I think it just keeps the shifter from bending as you shift. Especially with a truck, it is shifted very often when under load. It prevents metal fatigue from setting in by constant bending back and forth. The bolts will go all the way through.

I also have one on mine. Provides extra stiffness to the mounting.
