Chickasha on my mind

Post by ModelT46 » Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:13 pm

I received my pass materials yesterday for the FL ouitside area. If the weather inproves and we have both our shots, we my go. I have some nice brass items (lights and horns) to bring plus lots of small NOS items, nice old motor meters, early licenses plates and more. Does anyone know if the oputside areas are covered with snow at the present time?

I expect there's still plenty on the ground, but it will soon be gone. Starting tomorrow the highs will be in the forties and fifties for the rest of the month. The days will be mostly sunny or partly cloudy, so the melting should be pretty quick.
The inevitable often happens.

I imagine the outside space are deep in snow right now. By the swap meet all should be clear. Just remember that Chickasha weather can be anything from the high 80s to 6 degrees. I have been to Chickasha when it was in the mid 80s one day and the next morning was 11 degrees with a full blown blizzard. I always go prepared for anything as to the clothes I take. If you have outside spaces and the temp is miserable or even rain, it has been possible to trade outside spaces for inside spaces in the south building. But the spaces are smaller inside and I have heard that the south building may be sold out. I can not verify that. But, it would be the first time in many years the south building has sold out. For the last several years the south building has been maybe 1/2 full.

Hope to see everyone there ....

Donnie word I got was all spaces in South building are sold. This came from someone that called to get another spot. He was told the building is full.
Hate I will miss it this year.
By the way my spaces in South building are posted for sale in ad page. Dan

Has anyone have first hand information on the oitside sites at Chickasha? Is there snow on the ground? was any plowing done? will all the snow be gone by swap time?

The snow will be long gone by the swap meet. Its unusual to have snow during the swap meet but it has happened before. A friend of mine used to live in Chickasha when he was a kid. His mom always said there are two seasons in Chickasha, "dust" and "mud" If it's cold your "mud can be frozen"

We will be on spaces SL 11, 12, 13, and 14 in the south building no matter how cold, or if it rains. As to the weather, the only thing that would stop us from going would be ice.

Hope to see everyone there ...

Wow....I'm glad I bought my south barn space last year.

Looking forward to getting away from the hustle and bustle of Houston and relaxing with rows and rows of glorious, rusty old junk.

I was at the 2010 meet. Beaut sunny to light overcast from Wednesday to Friday. I couldn't work out the mad panic by vendors to get loaded and head east as quick as they could on Friday afternoon. We'd booked in to stay Friday night, so I was disappointed to see all the sites being vacated early. They had a blizzard that night and we woke to a delightful deep snow cover. The escapees east were able to keep in front of it. Two Aussie mates heading west spent 10 hours in their Jeep wrangler, stranded on the freeway, until it was plowed. We left it till Sunday to make our way west.

Been there when I have seen sun, rain, sleet, hail, snow and then sun again. All in 8 hours. Not just a little snow either, good 2 inches.
You never know what you will see. Hate I will miss this year. Dan
