23 T..Is the front engine mount cap supposed to touch at the bolt ends, or should there be a gap as shown on mine? Engine is sitting in the saddle. Thanks Tried to rotate the picture, but didn't work..

I have similar to that on the 2 26 T's I have and I don't have any gap. There should be some grease in there and it should be loose enough for the bearing on the front of the crankcase to move a little each way as the frame flexes. It should not be loose, but not too tight similar to a connecting rod bearing.

Thanks Norman, what do you think the problem is with mine? Tommy

I'd say the bushing is GONE and the crank handle might be worn as well !

I was looking at the hand crank - that cap should be tight against the lower mount.

Snug tight, as posted, add a bit of grease to this front bearing , don't forget the lock washers. (Ford Service, para. #105). Earlier brass cars used lock wire as those bolts have hole for the wire.

Looks like there is a nub on the backside of the front engine bearing mount that is on the frame, that is hitting the oil pan. Does this bearing have a front and back? I think, if I turn the mount 180 degrees it will work. Or, is the bearing just worn out?

Yes it does have a front and back. The mount that you are showing in the photos is the later 26-27 version, with the mounting boss for the radiator apron. And yes, it is on backwards. Simply turning it around should solve your problem.

You do realize you will need to unbolt the engine and lift it up high enough to slide the spring mount out to reverse it ? Also, make sure you relocate the mount & center the spring bolt.

There are at least two separate problems here. One is the backward spring clip. Turning it around to face forward may solve the gap between the cap and the clip. The other problem is the missing (or badly worn away) crank bushing. Maybe the crank is significantly worn too. We can't see that. I use a bronze bushing to save wear on the crank.

You may have to ream a new bushing for the crank to fit.

Thanks Steve..I am sure I will find many more problems..I am checking Langs for a new bushing and maybe a new handle..Thanks again..Tommy
