Probably dust-bowl era, or perhaps last year ?
Seems everyone's coming here lately.

I have a 26 Roadster with a rumble seat. The rumble seat is not original equipment on the model T. The first Fords to have a rumble seat were Model A's. Someone who had this car before reversed the trunk lid and made it into a rumble seat. The upper part of the top was cut so that it could be opened or closed with the top down. I also cut my finger one time on a tour when it slammed down as I was reaching for a tool and spent a few hours in an ER getting it stitched back on. So now whenever I open it, I use a bungee cord to the spare tire.

I put the identical rumble seat conversion on my 27 roadster many years ago. My kids put quite a few miles in there!!

I have one in a 26 Roadster. It was there when I got the car. It is also a good cutter to take off a finger! When I put it up now, I use a bungee to the spare tire because of what happened on a tour. Those other two pictures show my finger after they reattached the tip of it.

They look horribly uncomfortable to me, hard to get in and out of, and like someone said on a different post regarding rumble seats, they're great for putting people in that you really don't wanna have a conversation with while driving, cause you usually can't hear a thing! And then what about exhaust fumes maybe wafting up from underneath? Not for me.

Just ain’t practical at all. Looks neat I guess for pictures but going down the road around 30-40 MPH wouldn’t be fun after a few minutes.

I think they were mostly meant for kids. The Model T lacks room for much of a rumble seat. The Model A is better in that regard, but still limited. Some big cars had rumble seats that could acommodate small adults, and a few had rumble seat access by way of the car door. In the case of the T roadster, it looks to me like the folded down top would prevent using a rumble seat, if one was present. A T roadster with a roll up back curtain could be useful for a young family with a couple of kids, at least in warm weather. Kids could crawl over the front seat back to get in the rumble seat, and they'd get plenty of fresh air with the back curtain rolled up. With no passengers in the rumble seat, you could still carry groceries, etc, and a block or two of ice in the back.

The one I have and the ones shown in the advertisements the back is a modified rear turtleback door cut about 7 inches from the front with hinges installed at the bottom and a folding brace on one side to hold it open. The seat can be opened with the top down. That was the problem when I got my finger cut. The battery is on the left, which is the same side as the brace. when I reached in to get a tool or remove the battery, I bumped the brace and the lid began to fall. I jerked my hand and got it almost out when the tip of the middle finger of my left hand was almost out. It missed the other fingers.
