An Old Use For A Model T Coil

Back in the day the Model T coil was used as an inexpensive electric fence charger.
LeJay made a kit to convert an ignition coil into a fence charger.

I posted a short video of it in operation on Facebook.

I found it in my box-o-coils and restored it.
The thing that looks like a fuse is a glass tube (from a fuse) that I put a spark gap in.
The three neon bulbs flash when it fires.

Ingenious yet simple device and a nicely done example.
I like the advertising on the package, too. :)

And the glass tube is from an old fuse?

The large glass tube is a laboratory test tube.
The small one is from a old blown fuse.

I kept hearing how you could use a T coil to do an electric fence, and now I get it!!!

That glass tube and bearing is the heart of zapping bears, elk, and coyotes who want a free chicken dinner... I've always wanted to make a T coil electric fence (after I nailed myself on a T spark coil) and I think you answered my questions, thanks!!!!
