Is there any reason not to position the capacitor up where it’s easier to replace?

That works and less tar! Think about how much space the original took in the box.

Bob, come on man! Of course there is a reason not to do this. It is the vintage model T experience. If something is easier then you are whimping out on the period experience!

That period experience is only one of the reasons I always hand crank my 1927 car.... another reason is the 6V battery and "starter". If you keep going for "easier" pretty soon we will find a water pump in there and something else entirely where your timer should be!
