Here is another whatzit. The first correct answer will get one of our spring loaded firewall mounted oil can holders sent to them ( if the winner wants one )

Interesting that there is an upper case 'R' instead of lower case.

Second that guess....oil can
Tim's new repo brass oil can has faux script to keep from paying marketing fees, and insuring the oil can isn't confused with originals, for obvious reasons.

My friend, Ed Martin got it right. That was quicker than I thought. I’ve got your address, Ed, the holder is on the way. Of course we have more, $40ppd , ( recent price drop) just send me an email.

This gumball machine came out in 1922, and I’ll bet the Ford name was made like that to piggyback the popularity of the model T among the masses. I’ll also bet FoMoCo legal was on them quickly with both feet. The company changed to a decal very quickly and gave up the script. These earliest “Ford” script gumball machines are hard to find, but I’ll bet everyone of you had put a penny in one in later years, (later a nickel, and then dime) as the iconic machine was the go-to fund raiser for civic groups.

I don't know about the origins of the name Ford for the gumball company in Akron, NY, but it was their legitimate name, though in no way related to Ford Motor. When I was in elementary school we visited the factory on a field trip and saw how they were produced and packaged. Very interesting, but for us kids the highlight was that we each got a little box of 25 gumballs at the conclusion.

The story of Ford Gum began in 1913.
Ford Mason, a 20-year-old roofing salesman who spent spring, summer and early fall traveling by horse and buggy over the winding country roads of western New York State. He was idle during the winter because nobody repaired barn roofs in cold weather.
Looking for work that winter, Ford met a man engaged in the business of operating chewing gum vending machines. The first machine had been invented only a few years before, and just a handful of entrepreneurs had ventured into the business.
and now the rest of the story
