Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
So I'm not sure if the person who put this together before had it on correct. Does the bend go up or down?

First off - that appears to be the throttle lead - the spark lead is much shorter & it goes UP.

Thanks Steve. I'll go look at the throttle one that came ion the car. It is a reproduction one I think. I'll compare them.

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
So I looked at the two levers. The one with the bend is shorter.
Now the next question. Should I have both spark and timer rods in the up position when I put the levers on and the rivets in?

Robert, the throttle arm is twice as long as the spark arm. it is likely the ones you show are both variants of the throttle arm.

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
Thanks that's good to know. I'll order another one. Should I have both the spark and gas rods in the up position before I put them on?

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
Yes, the correct spark lead is short ! With both the spark & throttle in the closed/up position, the spark lead will be pointed up & towards the commutator - the throttle lead will be pointing down & towards the carburetor.

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
There are at least two designs of the throttle lever. The early design uses two pins that are riveted. The later design uses one rivet. For the timer lever, it is riveted too. Please refer to my post of two weeks ago on that subject. There are three different designs of the timer lever, so you must use the one that is the correct design for your car.

I checked Larry. My rod only has one hole for the single pin.

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
OK so I think I got the position of the two arms. I just got the correct timer arm from Lang's.
In the photo both Rods are in the up position.

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
Looks good Robert ! For the other issue - throw that tapered key away - not a good band-aid ! Use the 1/4" x 1/4" new key - it SHOULD be tight in the pinion & the wheel center !

Re: Does this spark rod lever go up or down?
Thanks Steve I will make sure the key fits. You'll see on the other post I think it was my fault the key didn't fit. Ha! I'm learning.
