Coil Box Lid
23 Roadster..Does the coil box lid secure the coils in any way? I don't have a lid for mine, and had a coil loose connection at the bottom contact. That made me wonder if a lid would have prevented this from happening. That being said, does anyone have a slant style coil box lid for a 23 roadster? Thanks..Tommy.

Re: Coil Box Lid
The lid helps the coils stay in place and ensure proper contact inside the coilbox. Coils will tend to levitate if not properly secured.

Re: Coil Box Lid
The lids are the same from about 1917 to 1925. There is a lip inside that presses the coils down. So yes a lid will keep the coils seated.

Re: Coil Box Lid
Caution on some of the reproduction slant top lids that have the sides and internal shelf spot welded which caused t he sides to warp. The shelf on the underside of the lid is what keeps the coils in place.

Re: Coil Box Lid
Tommy, I have a complete box with a good lid. Don't really want to separate them but would sell the set for $60 plus the ride...

Did you try putting an ad in the classifieds or looking on eBay?

Re: Coil Box Lid
I thought the 15-16 lids were used into early 17 too.

Re: Coil Box Lid
TRDxB2. what are the hinges mentioned in the descriptions of the lids? I don't believe I've ever seen a coil box lid w/a hinge.

Re: Coil Box Lid
I suspect the description refers to the latch piece. The catch that mounts on the box itself sort of hinges to catch it.
When did I do that?

Re: Coil Box Lid
Like most all parts transitioning from one year to the next - use up the old inventory. I also read that the date a part was manufactured doesn't always align with when it was available on the assembly line.Original Smith wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 10:49 amI thought the 15-16 lids were used into early 17 too.

Re: Coil Box Lid
My late 14/early 15 wide track has a 13 rear end. Being so uncommon & last in first out inventory, its not unreasonable to believe it came that way from the factory.
