I'm taking off the trunk and mounting the pickup box on my 1925 roadster. Does anyone have instructions, sketches, or images so I do it right?

You failed to mention if your pickup box is a genuine Ford. Even though Ford boxes were available from March 1925 on, people were still using aftermarket beds. When I installed my original bed, I had a half dozen friends over for the occasion, not wanting to scratch anything. There is only about 1/4" clearance between the back panel of the runabout body and the front panel of the bed.

TDS: ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO DO A DRY RUN BEFORE MOUNTING BODY PARTS. YOU WILL NEED DIFFERENT IRONSFOR THE REAR FENDERS AS THE ROADSTER IRONS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE FORD PICK UP BOX. I HAVE DRAWINGS OF THE CORRECT ONES I'LL SHARE WITH YOU IF YOU EMAIL ME. I AM NOT NORMALLY ON THE T FORUM.
YOU WILL SEE HOLES ALREADY IN THE FRAME FOR THE PU BOX CARRIAGE BOLTS. I RECALL THAT THE METAL IN THE BODY THAT SLIDES DOWN OVER THE T FRAME IS A TIGHT FIT. I'M SURE OTHERS WILL CHIME IN As well. Bill springerpete@roadrunner.com

Sorry for the delay everyone, been working thru the loss of my father. Lots of great information here, thank you very much. Yes, the box I have is an original 1925 box. My dad had picked up the correct fender brackets which I believe are used on a fordor from the same period?
I believe the boxes were made to be interchangeable with the turtle deck, so I hope there are Ford instructions somewhere on how to mount the box. Sounds like mostly trial and error with some luck needed to get it on.
I also saw one with a spare tire mounted under the box behind where the tailgate swings down. Can anyone confirm if that was original? Any idea what those brackets might look like? I could make something, but would love to have it be close to how it was originally.

The fender brackets are only made for the factory metal pickup bed. A standard fender bracket will work however. I have a list of all the parts that are required to mount this bed, but I don't know how to find it! Sorry.

A rest stop post for a roadster or touring car top will work!

For some of those out in the forums who have steel factory boxes on your 1925 roadsters, can you take some pictures of the mounting points to the car? A picture is worth a thousand words... a picture with a ruler showing the scale has got to be worth 10,000 words?

Hi Travis, No, There was not a spare tire mounting bracket under the pickup box or anywhere else on the '25 Roadster Pickups. On our '26 Roadster Pickup we have the spare tire mounted under the box, but it's a home made setup. It works ok, but it's not outstanding.

Thanks. I'll have to get creative or maybe just mount it on the driver's side fender.

You know what they say, pictures can be worth a thousand words. Perhaps these will give you some ideas.

That box looks awesome. Lots of good ideas for how to make it look like it's old without breaking the bank buying actual old parts. Thanks for sharing.

I just looked at your thread from last year...your results are fabulous! You've really put together a nice car...I remember the pix from when you first got it. Am envious of your time with your dad...my dad and I are separated by an entire country and would love to do such a job with him if it was possible

I will ditto the suggestion to do an installation trial run. My original but rusty 26 PU bed went off and on several times. The bed I restored didn’t match up well with the body frame holes - almost but not quite. There were interference issues with the body and front bed panel as well as the filler panels. Not sure a 25 used filler panels. Anyway, slide it on to make sure the holes line up good.

Thank you! Yes, if you take time and think it through, its possible. While I may be an architect, its my father who is skilled in building with 'Model T vernacular' in mind.

I hope to have the truck at Hershey if you get to the fleamarket this year.

Scott, thank you for your kind words! You're so full of knowledge here on the forum, I really respect and am humbled by your words. Yes, the time with dad is immeasurable. He's quite the self taught mechanic. Hope to have her on the road in a week or two for good! Mounting my tires next weekend!
