Canadian Engine Number info?

Post by bowerss2 » Wed Apr 21, 2021 10:56 am

Good afternoon all.

I just bought a pair of Canadian Ts eh? One is a late 27 car with engine No. C-749243. This would put it after July. Possible this is a replacement engine? or extremely late 27? I have not seen the frame number yet, when the car arrives i will go looking for it (I dont know much about Canadian Model Ts i assume they also have a frame number?). have this old record from Ford, but was wondering if there was any other information out there on Canadian production?

I havent taken delivery of the cars yet but here are some photos of the 27. Its an older restoration, the engine was done by Sandy McTavish in the early 00s

Looks like a nice car. Nice to see that it still has the vaporizer carb. They seem to get a bad rap but I have one on my original 27 Touring and it works fine. Maybe a little slower starting when cold than a carb equipped car but I'll put up with that. Serial number should be in the normal location on right frame rail near the cowl. That's where mine is. If it matches the engine then you are correct in that it is a late 27 production. Mine is Nov-Dec 26 production. You may find features which differentiate it from US models- Made in Canada markings on many castings, Kelsey Canada wheels (at least my wooden ones are) and of course the Robertson (square-drive) screws. Have fun!

There is a disc, but the photo i have you cant make out anything. Ill post more when i get the car home. This is the first time I have bought a car without going to look at it (covid border closures and all) so im afraid i drove the seller insane with requesting videos / photos/ etc etc so i dont want to bug him again.

Canadian serial numbers are less well documented than U.S. numbers, but the Encylopedia has several pages of them compiled from various sources.
