OMG!!! Is this an age appropriate tour destination? What happened to the sleepy drives down little Main Streets and to antique shops? Could these happy Californians be going "hippie" on us.

This is the reason I did not go on this tour. It goes against my grain.

Since they are from California there is a good chance that they were former hippies.

Don't worry about pot. Smoking Tobacco is bad for ones health. Vaping is bad for ones health. Ones health is already bad if smoking "medical" marijuana. People who are ingesting "recreational" marijuana smoke is good for my health because it has the same affect on them as tobacco smoke.

I believe Henry Ford thought that hemp fibers were a good ingredient in his attempts to make a composite car body in 1941.

My cousins in northern Michigan grow hemp as a commercial crop. They have perimeter signs advising “visitors” that their crop is hemp and does not contain THC. While they farm acres of the stuff, I have yet to notice an odor.

I can see why Henry Ford appreciated hemp as a natural fiber. The plants themselves are indestructible and difficult to harvest.

Locally, I became acquainted with a businessman in my complex who identified himself to me as a “distributor” when he legally moved in. The smell that occurred as his business progressed has managed to permeate the area. I too describe it as skunk-like.

I think there are better places to take my car.

The (East) Germans did something similar for the bodies of the (infamous) Trabant... using cotton waste and resin for body panels. While the running joke was they had to add rodenticide to the resin to keep rats from eating body panels, they actually held up pretty good, considering the otherwsie high quality standards of these "fine East German motorcars"... There's a youtube of the Trabi assembly line (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emoF0EFxjjA) if you're curious... comparing these fine transportation machines to lesser vehicles like Audi or Horcht...

One sate during WWII decided to use a soy-hemp based substance, similar to the material used in the car produced by Ford in 1941, for license plate production to avoid using a strategic material (steel), thereby aiding the war effort. Most states issued plates in singles or pairs yearly prior to and for several years during the war.
It was economical, somewhat durable, and apparently very tasty to livestock that were free to wander the property. Hogs, especially were attracted to it as they would consume one, if not both license plates if they were in reach.
Ford used hemp products for many years. At least into the late 50's. The white-on-grey plaid patterned trunk mats in the full sized sedans and Thunderbirds were printed on processed hemp. Eventually they switched to a heavy vinyl material with the same print, as hemp was extremely flammable and became hard to obtain.

Re: Prohibition.... how true. Substance prohibition usually (if not always) generates a tyrannic enforcement industry and a very robust black market supply industry. Prohibition seems to promote the production, distribution, and abuse of the prohibited substance.

This was the single most engaging destination that I have ever visited on a Model T Tour and I expect this adventure to be favorably mentioned in a future edition of our Vintage Ford Magazine. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this educational experience possible for us California Model T-ers.

Cannabis Oil

Post by FreighTer Jim » Sun Apr 25, 2021 11:24 pm

I personally know a few folk who regularly take cannabis oil.

I sent some to my brother in Idaho who is dealing
with multiple sclerosis and I have recommended
it for years to other folks.

Some folks make fun of what they don’t know.

They don’t take the time to get educated.

Maybe if they had a family member dying of
cancer - they wouldn’t make fun of THC.

I was, like, going to... fix something .... and the wrenches were not where it was supposed to be so I went and got a big glass of cold sweet tea and then I had to have some lemon so I put the tea back in the ice box I guess and went to get something oh yeah the store and I got to the store and got some oranges and more tea and then back home and wow there were cats I mean ants all over the kitchen floor so I had to sweep them out and I can't figure why there was tea all over the floor in the first place and I don't even have a cat and the old cat lady next door moved out so what's this cat all about and who opened the ice box?

The Government pretty much has eliminated the health risk of smoking & inhaling it into one's lungs by taxing Tobacco products. Vaping was then promoted as an alternative to inhaling smoke into one's lungs. Now that its dangers have have been realized by State Governments & its being to be taxed. Now since these products are on the wane, th need to fill the loss of tax revenue "Marijuana" was promoted as having medicinal effects & labeled as "Medical Grade" Marijuana for its medicinal effect for which none have been proven.
"Existing studies of medical cannabis suggest symptom relief can vary from patient to patient. Side effects are very common. Among the most common side effects are dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, light-headedness, drowsiness, and nausea" These side effects are similar to Carbon Monoxide poising because it is inhaled into the lungs. Gee - do people expect ingesting particulates into one lungs is healthy, with marijuana being some kind of exception since it is labeled as "medical grade"?
Now I do have a Friend suffering from Parkinson Disease and he is license to buy & use it. He does use it when he has a sever attack of the shakes because of its calming effects as we all would expect. It will not be long before people start suing Marijuana Manufacturers.
For example there are labeling requirements by State
Arizona labeling recognizes the dangers of smoking it etc
"ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES’ WARNING: Marijuana use
can be addictive and can impair an individual’s ability to drive a motor vehicle or operate heavy
machinery. Marijuana smoke contains carcinogens and can lead to an increased risk for cancer,
tachycardia, hypertension, heart attack, and lung infection
. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN "

On the other hand there is California is a bit cautious in its labeling to not scare away additional tax revenus
A) “SCHEDULE I CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE.”
(B) “KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS” in bold print.
(C) “FOR MEDICAL USE ONLY.”
(D) “IF PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING, CONSULT A PHYSICIAN PRIOR TO USE.”
(E) “THE INTOXICATING EFFECTS OF THIS PRODUCT MAY BE DELAYED BY UP TO TWO HOURS.”
(F) “THIS PRODUCT MAY IMPAIR THE ABILITY TO DRIVE OR OPERATE MACHINERY, PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION.”
There is nothing about the dangers to ones lungs as stated by Arizona :o
And to help buyers from being scammed the following label needs to be applied

With my questioning mind, I wonder if anyone knows ian mitch (as he spells his own name )
with MTFCA and MTFCI membership numbers 1 and 1?
He's been on the forum for a while but a limited number of posts.
He seems to be "pushing" a particular product.
Maybe at best his comments go to "Services" or are removed??

Just another example of where Model T Tours take us folk where we never thought we would go. Numerous times I have toured regional areas, towns and venues that I would never have gone if it were not for being part of a Model T Tour. Looks like a very interesting place to visit. Just for the record, I think medicinal marijuana has a place, but recreationally, I dont think so.

I agree with Warwick about the pot. medical only.
If you ever smell quality (#$&#^$ ) burning, you will want to find a skunk to get the smell out of your nose.
If you can't help em, don't hinder em'

I posted to this topic over a year ago and offer these updates.

My cousins no longer grow hemp. The harvest was a nightmare and the crop value did not justify their time and labor.

Here in Michigan, wholesale marijuana prices have dropped to the point that for some, crops cost more to grow than can be netted on the legal market. I am delighted because now my shop smells like a shop again. I no longer am experiencing the high humidity from next door that caused it to rain in my shop and I haven’t seen a single biting ladybug that they used for insect control that managed to find their way into my place.

My new neighbor rents out bounce houses and inflatable slides and he’s a welcome addition.

My opinion is this kind of a post should not be on this forum.

I agree that this post should not be here. The long term psychological effect has been documented. Heroin, morphine, hemp may have a use for medical issues but that’s it.
Unfortunately one thing leads to another in to many cases.

What if the tour destination had been a winery or distillery? Should a post about such a tour also not be on the forum? Our local club has had winery tours and I've been on a remote tour that visited a distillery and another that toured a beer brewery. Those days were fun and really interesting.

Is there a reason to stigmatize this tour or the post about it?

Marijuana is against federal law. When are the companies that sell it and encourage it going to be held liable like the tobacco companies. Winery’s and alcohol are legal. I realize some states have allowed marijuana and some for medical reasons. It just seems rather odd it has very little use in the medical community seeing how it has been around forever. I don’t encourage driving after the use of either. I guess you can visit where you want but it really has little to do with Model T’s.

In the two world wars IH built cutting/gathering machinery for the hemp. The fibers. Excellent fiber in the stalks.
Looks similar to a tomato growing operation in PA I saw years ago. The waste heat in the greenhouse came from power generation engines.
And no. Weed didn't put them in their chairs... Tho that 's really funny! :)
What really bothers me is the "High grade" (pun not intended) Cannabis label.
High grade for the hemp fibers or high grade for the THC levels? Does any company make rope etc from the fiber?
Ish, if for the THC levels? I've talked to people that don't use that as it's too powerful.
Not for me.
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

We need to get Putin and Xi on pot. Getting those two into regular, heavy pot use would make the world a better place.

For a post which "should not be on the forum" it got more replies than most!

Censorship is often more offensive than what it tries to block. Censorship often aims to impose ignorance upon people. Censorship often has the adverse effect of raising interest in what is censored. It's a favorite tool of tyrants.

I think it's important to embrace the new and exciting experiences that come our way. Life is short, and we never know what tomorrow may bring.
Another questionable post revitalizing a long past post. Bot?
