Date this engine for me.
This is a Made in Canada engine. Who can tell me a date based on the serial number and also tell me what the 1229 on the side means. Obviously pre-starter but an exact date??? Ribbed pedals.

June 1921 according to the serial number. 12/29 must be December 29, 1920

Thanks, I spent about 15 minutes looking for that list and even google didn't find it. It is the engine out of the wood cab truck we have coming up.

Another example of Canada making blocks before the first thought dating of 1919.

Re: Date this engine for me.
Wouldn't the cast date be 12/29/1917? So that number could be first part of 1918 car build date.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

1920 Dodge touring
1948 Ford F2 pickup

Re: Date this engine for me.
Stan, Does the wood cab TT truck that the engine came out of have the early type worm housings with the beading, ( plus the 2 spider gear differential if you know ) ? Maybe even solid rubber rear wheels ? Your truck could be a genuine 1918 model, the frist year of the TT.

Re: Date this engine for me.
There was a post about T serial no’s. awhile back about how neat and straight the engine stamp guy on the line was aligning the no’s.
This engine stamping isn’t exactly straight and spaced and looks to be done by hand. He got the job done though. Or if he was using some type of stamp jig and the no’s. got jiggled around. Interesting since this appears to be an unaltered block.

Re: Date this engine for me.
I'll probably get in trouble for posting a truck that is for sale at the auction. I only have a couple photos of it, this is the engine that is with it but we don't know if it came with it or is one that Leonard found and put with it. The had a huge farm in Canada. Both this truck and the green one came from near their farm. Also, their US farm is about 20 miles from the Canadian border (established in 1910) so there was a lot of back and forth before it was clamped down on.

Looks to have 24/25 front fenders. However these were used all the way through 27 too. Dan

Re: Date this engine for me.
Thanks Stan for posting the pictures. I agree with Dan, the chassis looks 1924-25 with some older parts mixed in. Note that all TT's used channel steel running board brackets that attached to the side frame rail but didn't go across frame.
That is a interesting wood bed and the cab looks to use a 24 type coupe cowl.

Re: Date this engine for me.
That's kind of what I thought, too. But whatever you list on the advertising somebody will tell you you don't know what you're talking about so we just listed it as a wooden cab Model TT. Who knows what engine it had? I sure don't. It is close to 100 years old and was bought to go to work on the farm and probably did.
