New Scam user.

Post by Sarikatime » Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:34 pm

There is this guy that sounds like he knows what he is talking about, he is even registered on the forum under some bogus name and created activity to make him look legitimate. He wanted to buy my car that is for sale but his manners and language leaves much to be desired. All he wanted, over and over again is my full name and address so he could send me a check for the car. He sends texts mostly but refused to talk to me. When I told him the car is not leaving my garage till I get cash, not check or promises he got angry but stopped bothering me. He was the fifth scammer this month that wanted my car. They are keeping me on my toes.

Thank you, Frank. Why not post his username(s) as well as the other scammers you have encountered and document their ploys tactics and tricks here, so innocent members will know who and what to watch out for? Unmasking him/them may also make him/them stop trying to victimize our trusting members and leave our forum for more promising victims of his/their scams. There should be a place on the forum here members can go to see who the recent scams and scammers are. We are taught to trust and to give the people benefit of the doubt and it is being used against us.

There has been someone on our forum that has been recently posting inquiries asking if there are any Model T’s for sale. He doesn’t seem to be choosy. One week it is for a “Ford 4 door sedan”, the next week it is for a “1909-1912 model T touring”, then he wants a “1916 Model T touring”, then a “Model T town car” then a “Model T couplet”... Things that make you go hmmmmm. Just sayin’, be wary. Jim Patrick.

A very cursory search yields hundreds of results... including the super hot deals and steep one day only discounts you always knew you deserved! Shop right now for incredible deals with no money down and no credit check!

He doesn’t want your car, he wants your money. He will send a bogus check for more than your asking price and want you to send a check to the “shipping company” to ship it. His check will be fake, yours will not.

It’s always a bit suspect if the spelling and grammar/syntax is below average. We all make typos but you can pick a pattern/style.....

Also suspect when profile names with these potential concerns adopt sporting or other notable person’s names.....

As TXGOAT2 says a cursory search can reveal all you need to know...

Theres one that raises questions at the moment..... although no one wants to incriminate erroneously .... sellers please be aware. Also photos we might supply to scammer potential buyers have a way of appearing in adverts and being sent in reply to adverts placed by these scammers. I received an amazing array of professional photos for a 2 cylinder Ford last year - the scammer flags were all there in the emails we exchanged thankfully!!!!

With some time spent as an underwriter for cyber liability policies it’s amazing how much money can be conned from very reputable organisations and the level of technical skills, blatant confidence and cunning used.
