1911 touring acetylene generator mount

Post by flatbroke3 » Wed May 12, 2021 2:00 pm

I am questioning how my generator is mounted to the running board. Mine has a 3/4 inch piece of wood under it to raise it above the ribs in the outside of the running board. perhaps the unit is the wrong size? (base to big in diameter)? I seem to not be able to find any photos close enough to see that area. how do all you seasoned club members have your generator mounted? photos greatly appreciated. or at least a very good description.

How about some pictures of your generator, that will give the visual to make some suggestions.

I use a 1/8 inch rubber pad under the base and mount it to the running board. You should have a small round hole in the apron for the red rubber hose to go through from the generator to the light tube at the bottom of the fins inside the engine compartment. From that tube you should have rubber hose going to the headlamps on either side. That generator looks to be a Jno Brown style generator judging from the 3 hole base mount although it could be a Corcoran but most Corcoran’s had 4 holes I believe. I would use flat brass washers and brass bolts on the top side and brass nuts with lock washers on the bottom. Is your generator a reproduction? Do you see a makers stamp on the base of the water tank close to the valve? It’s generally to the left of the valve if it’s an original JB “UNLESS ITS BEEN POLISHED OFF, HA.” The size of your generator is fine. Curious, what type headlamps & sidelights do you have? Is this an original 11? Good luck. Best John
