Question re pulling a 27 engine

Can a 27 engine/mag/trans assembly be removed from the front of the car without removing the trans cover? I am concerned the wider pedals won't exit the firewall with the trans cover in place.

I have done it more times than I like on a ‘27 Tudor without removing the hogshead. Stick a rod in the front hand crank hole and lift the front of the motor which will tilt the back end down. The pedals will clear the firewall. Barely. Go slow, get a helper if possible, make sure all wires are out of the way.

Yes. Just back off the brake band , low pedal fasteners and let them flop down some to easily clear the gas tank too. With a steep angle out the pedals will clear the cowl/firewall.

My wife and I have done the same thing on my 26 Roadster. Pulled the whole sh-bang at once. Be patient. Go slow and easy.

Remove the steering column and radiator first Put a pulling eye in the second spark plug hole to raise the front of the engine. You can leave the crank in place. Just lift up and slide forward If the front is high enough, the pedals will pass through. You might need to move the front of the engine toward your right (the left side of the car) and the pedals will clear the firewall. It does help to move the pedals as Dan says, but can be done with them in the normal place.

Yes, I have done it many many times without even playing with the pedal locations. As mentioned by others, very steep
Nose up angle, and with RHD drag the engine off centre so the pedals will clear.
Two points though... the 4th main will fall out and oil pour everywhere plus suggest you use some tin sheeting to protect the chassis and hood shelf from damage as you drag the engine out.
My Father has removed and refitted T Engines alone using a Block and Tackle tied to a tree Branch and lots of rope!
I have no idea how he managed it while working outside on a sandy front yard!

Years ago someone mentioned using a defunct credit card under each pan ear so sliding the engine out would not scratch the paint but I have no idea if it works and never save old credit cards!

I save my used up gift cards and reuse them for spreading things like Bondo or JB weld they would work good for this purpose also. Jim

I did it by my own, engine out and in.
Pulling out dont forget to losen the trangel from the frontaxle, I forgot it when pulling out and had no cluw why the engine stickes in the frame, stupid me...
Hit my own head when I saw my mistake, beginners fault

Really nice looking car! A good tip about draining oil before pulling the engine. I probably would have forgot and had quite a mess to clean up.

I usually find that if I remove the starter, then I can just move the motor past the steering column. I use two spark plug hooks, one in #3 to initially move the motor mounts past the firewall and then one in #1 to lift it out. Drain the oil before you start😊😊

In the U.S. it is generally called the front “radius rod”.
The slang term is “the wishbone”.
