Jay;
Thanks for reposting that. It's one of the things I have saved, fun to go back and look at some of the carb that were posted.

Great stuff. I need to go on Stan's Stromberg OF website and make copies of all the pictures before the site gets taken down. I tried to talk Stan into putting his Ruckstell site back up so that I could do the same with it, but he was worried that if he put the site up again that people would start bugging him to rebuild their Ruckstells and he didn't want to get back into that business.

Thank you Jay for the link to Stan's thread.
R.I.P. Stan
Have any of you a downloaded copy of Stan's Ruckstell page? I neglected to download it, when it was up way back when, and now sorely miss the opportunity to call upon his knowledge in the details of Ruckstell rebuilding.
Is that something which could be shared here, or perhaps, in a new thread? I have a hunch that others may be wishing to seek Unca Stan's wisdom and experience. I want to believe that he would approve of spreading his knowledge for the good of the hobby.
I have a Ruckstell which I purchased from Stan a number of years ago and only now am I able to get to it.

All of Stan's Web stuff is copyrighted and that lasts beyond the copywriter's passing. For everyone worried about handing over Mel Miller plans because they're copyrighted, or if you're NOT worried about it, well, the same applies to copying something off of the Web that has been copyrighted.

My feeble understanding of copyright is that it's OK to make a copy of a photo for one's personal use. Where the line gets crossed is if the copied photo gets used in some way where money changes hands (hence Stan's admonishment about using the photos for Ebay listings).

From this
https://www.findlaw.com/smallbusiness/b ... bsite.html and many other similar sites, the answer though not necessarily self-evident or obvious is: no, you cannot copy content from a website unless you have secured the author/creator's permission.
I don't think the above will stop anyone from copying Stan's web pages that are intent on doing so, but you should understand that doing so without permission is not legal no matter how it is justified in one's mind. A casual perusal of the subject will verify this.
The fact that money is not changing hands has absolutely nothing to do with the copying of Web-based copyrighted material whatsoever. With respect to photos that Stan chose to share on a public site for educational purposes, this would fall under the "fair use doctrine" and copying HIS photos from THIS site would be fair game. Copying wholesale content from his personal website does not constitute "fair use".
