Ford Plant Glass Plate Negatives, Sleuthing Opportinity

Post by jeffstag » Thu Mar 14, 2019 1:07 pm

Alright, so I just bought a stack of glass plate negatives, supposedly all from Ford Motor Company. I figured the group would be interested to see them and help me figure out what I'm looking at here. Most are Model T Era. Here are a few, I'll post more in just a minute.

The last one in your first set of negs looks like stacks of aluminum transmission covers.
I made it positive so it can be seen better.

Several of these are the Highland Park plant very early on. I'm not sure if the construction shots are also Highland Park

Definitely some very interesting shots there! I think I see a late Oakland/Pontiac in the parking lot picture. I will have to look closer later.

The story that came with these was that the man looking out over construction is Henry Ford himself, but there's no documentation to back that up, so it's just hearsay

I believe you are correct Jeff. That is probably Henry Ford and a young Edsel Ford taking a look at the construction from the new administration building. I thought about that yesterday when I flipped it.
If you look at known photos of the two men, you will see the similar height relationship. Also, the taller man on the left seems to have the Henry Ford stance and ear profile.
I assume there is nothing scratched on the border of the neg?
Neat find!

No, no margin notes at all. The only margin note on any of them is what is probably a date on the stacks of transmission covers
