Re: Miller head update
One of the biggest drawbacks to Model T high performance heads is shrouding around the intake valves. Since this is a new project, it would be nice to see the chamber core have an undercut around the walls adjacent to the intake to reduce this problem.

A little late now, but the Riley head was huge around and over the valves for better flow.

Thinking of making a stock looking low head with same combustion chamber chamber as the Miller. Any interest ?

Yes. How about a high head? As long as it is iron, not aluminum.Model T Tom wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 11:54 amThinking of making a stock looking low head with same combustion chamber chamber as the Miller. Any interest ?

Re: Miller head update
Yes, but none in iron. I wont run aluminum. The increased water capacity would be an advantage. You would have the ONLY iron hi head. I would steer all my people to it. Consider it for later runs.Model T Tom wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 12:36 pmNot at this time. Plenty of high heads out there. Aiming for something different.
Pruis makes a great hi head in aluminum, but, not iron. You would be the only one on the market.

The first run of Prus heads was in iron. I committed and got one!
At my stage I don’t need any more, but this is a interesting project!

Re: Miller head update
I missed that option. I tried to get a Pruis head in iron. He has given that up due to porus casting issues.Les Schubert wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 3:58 pmJohn

I have found a few second hand lizard heads to run. They had porosity issues also, but were repairable/usable.
For future motors, personal & customers, a high iron head would be ideal with this compression ratio/chamber design.
If not available, a low head may have to do. As long as its IRON.

I’ve had better luck getting good iron castings than aluminum ones when I was doing my T block project.

Re: Miller head update
Tom,
The Prus, Z and reproduction Rajo heads all have 5 to 5.3 compression ratio but claim anywhere from 6 to 8. Determining an accurate number is not rocket science. What is the combustion chamber volume and "true" compression ratio on this Miller head? See http://mtfctulsa.com/Tech/head_design.htm

Seems the solid model should have given a pretty exact volume- no need to machine a dummy?? So what is the chamber volume?

Re: Miller head update
4" stroke, stock bore and piston volume of 52.25 cc, that comes out pretty close to 6:1

Michael
I was wondering the same thing and wonder now if it isn't a function of camera angle. As an amature machinist I could see where the gasket side would be molded to a machinable profile with the water jacket being above it and squared off. All views have so little depth of field that within an inch or two the far side is shrunk beyond the line of sight. Look at the underside view and magnify it while looking at the right/forward corner and see if you don't happen to see what appears to be (?) a squared off profile lurking below/beyond the seal surface.
A 3/4 view would be most interesting and at least dispel confusion
At any rate, pretty nice looking castings with an absolute minimum of obvious porosity

Wow, that Miller style head is Gorgeous! Bravo!
I would buy one IF it were cast iron. I am not keen for an aluminum head.
Wonderful work and I wish you continued success with this project, Bill

Looks like #3 spark plug hole is centered between the valves. The others are over or closer to the intake valves. Why is that? Optical delusion, experiment, special clearance?
