Generator f Front Bearing

I have taken two generators apart lately that have two bearings in front. The rear bearing acts as a spacer as the shaft shoulder is set back. What's the deal.

You can add up to 5 photos per post, so you may want to combine all into one and if more then 5, add as a reply to keep all in same string. If that brush plate came out of the same generator, maybe post the whole unit showing the case and end pieces.

I have rebuit a couple hundred generators. Never seen this.
SWAG: Say Q/C ends up with a batch of scrap armatures where the shaft is machined too far in.(out of tolerence) They rework the shaft using a 2nd bearing as a spacer. Parts made usable. That 2nd bearing could serve no other purpose.

Could that be an example of one of the very early Ford Generators? The F.A. Liberty generator, (or whatever it was) before they went to the standard Ford pattern device?
