Any one familiar with a six cylinder 1922 Coupe

Post by Been Here Before » Tue Jun 22, 2021 11:42 am

Any one familiar with a six cylinder 1922 Coupe(?) from the Oakland area in California?

Whilst searching newspapers of the period (1922) I found an advertisement that had the sale of a Ford Coupe with a six installed. Factory installation?

A few years ago I found photos of a 6 cylinder model T Ford.
As I understood the information it was a gift to Henry Ford soon Edsel.
I will post all the photos I have in the next 3 posts

Interesting that for circa 1910 Ford, it has later features as the generator/distributor combination (a Dodge Item?) and the electric starter. A starter that did not become standard or an option for a Model T until after 1917?

If you want to build one I have a set of block patterns that would be a good starting point

A number of people built six cylinder 'model T' engines over the past hundred plus years. A few can be found in museums around the world, including a couple from the brass era.
There was one built in the Oakland California area way back when. I don't recall enough details about it, but it was discussed at length some years back on this forum. It was owned and cared for by a member of one of the local model T clubs back in the 1950s and '60s, and went on numerous club tours. The one I know of, however, was not a 1922 coupe. If I recall correctly, I think it was about a 1926 roadster pickup (but I may be mistaken?)?
In one of the discussions just a few years ago, it was revealed that the car does still exist and is still in the Oakland area.

I did have a bookmark for the thread. But it was lost in a computer crash about three years ago. I may try to find it later?

I believe one of these is the past Forum post referenced:

Or

The posted advertisement to sell Model ts, Interesting that such a car was sold by a dealer.

Back in the 70's when I worked for Ed Towe in Montana Lew Rector told me he once had a six cylinder model T and wished he still had it for the Towe collection. Lew was from the Bay Area.

The T pictured appears to be a "put-together" built around a 6 cylinder T engine. created in the 1920s. The engine block may date from the teens, but not the starter unit. The body is odd and does not look like one that Henry would have built for Edsel. Th top is a "make shift".
