'19 Hays Wire Wheel Stuck on Car

I need to re-line the AC auxiliary brakes on my '20 speedster, so I must remove the 1919 or so Hays wire wheels. The passenger side was removed without an issue, but the wheel on the driver's side won't budge.

What can I do to remove the hub? Is there a hub puller made specifically for these early wires?

Thanks, David

Having owned and used those, they are bear to get off. If not confident using an axle knocker nut,( that’s the easiest and best way ). back the nut off a couple threads and drive around just a short bit. They usually will come unglued. Don’t overdo the driving. I always truly enjoyed installing cotter pins in my Hayes. I invented a couple new words until I got the hang of making curved cotter keys,

Thanks, will try it. The other side has always loosened itself, and the driver's side has always been a bear but never this bad.

Hayes made a special puller for the rear. Screws in like hub cap and pulls wheels. Dan

My son made me a puller. It is a simple thick steel disc with the hubcap thread machined on the outside. He heavily welded a large nut on the outside and this is used to screw the unit into the wheel. A bolt screws through the large nut to register on the axle to provide the 'push' to get the wheel free.
It works like a charm, and I have since found out that a factory Hayes puller works the same way, except that the hex to screw it into the wheel is part of the Machined disc.

Hope this helps,
Allan from down under.
