'26/'27 TT Radiators

Post by Marv K » Tue Jul 20, 2021 7:29 pm

Don't know if we have an oddity or if it's just something normal.
When looking over the radiator of the '26 TT, I was able to identify that it was five tubes deep, front to back. Car radiators I've seen are only three tubes deep, but the tanks appear the same size as the TT. ('26/'27 TT's retained the 'high' style from '24/'25, along with the radiator shell and apron.) Did my Dad get an anomaly, was it a replacement, or something else? This question occurred to me while perusing some of the cooling discussions here on the Forum, so it would be interesting to know since I've not seen it mentioned before. One of my grandsons will inherit the truck, and I would like to pass along the knowledge. Thanks.

I’d say it was for T s and TT s in the Southwest and Southern market. There was triple digit temps here in Texas in the Twenties also.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

It could have been replaced years ago and a earlier radiator that had more tubes was used. Ford made a 3 row radiator in 26 but I would imagine the earlier 5 row could still be had several years after T production stopped. Just a guess of course.
High radiators would interchange from 24-27 so no telling what changes happened over time.

1928 Ford Motor Company Parts book offer 5 choices of tube design for 1924/27. From a single row of flat tubes, 3, 4, and 5 round tubes + a 5 row with every second row skipped.

Thanks for the input, guys. It just seems to me that if the T (car) radiators had those 'extra' tubes of cooling, we might not have the often heard of cooling issues discussed here on the Forum. Sometimes, logic escapes us? If a radiator needs to be re-cored, wouldn't it make sense to provide for that extra cooling capacity? The fan space doesn't seem to present a problem.

You may be familiar with the 2 types of 26/7 fan pulleys. The long version is for use with the narrow core radiator. The normal short is for the wide core radiator. The long version wont fit the wide cores.
