Front License Bracket - Polished Brass - Problem

I recently purchased a Polished Brass Front License Bracket (T-3664-CHPO) from Snyders and I am having a little problem. The bracket has a nice feature that allows you to lock your crank in place so people do not fool around with your car. The problem I have is that I can not start my car even when the anti-theft feature is flipped up and away because the crank hits the bracket. I called Snyders and they said they sell a bunch of these and have not heard of any problems.

I am thinking that my crank handle may be too short and that is why it hits the bracket.
Has anyone else had an issue with this bracket?

Does you crank hang down just a bit when it’s pulled out as far as it will go? If it does the crank bushing in the pan may be worn. It doesn’t take much wear for it to droop.

Is your crank bent. I have seen some that are. You might try bending the crank out a little to get clearance.

The bushing is tight and I don't think my crank is bent....but I can look at it again.
I am just wondering if my crank is shorter than normal. (No jokes here guys)
Does anyone know the specs for a normal 1913-1914 crank?

I’ve been hearing a bent crank would likely be Peronies Disease and you should see a doctor.

Maybe you can slot the holes in the plate holder so it will go further back.

The riser that holds the forked part that holds the crank can easily be bent forward or back to give the clearance you need.
I had to do a lot of work to mine, the holes on the motor mount bracket were too close together, they were too far back, the riser was bent, the fork was formed wrong (it was ground wrong for the leaf spring).
The part is a cool accessory, but they have troubles with the details.

Could it be the part you are speaking of is a reproduction?

Dan...do you have any pictures of what it looks like after you worked on it? It would be nice to see your modifications.
.
And yes Larry....this is a reproduction part that does not seem to fit quite right.
.
I tried looking at this from another point of view and realized that if I added some spacers it would raise it up to better align the bracket with the crank hole. There would still be some minor interference, but I would not have to modify the bracket very much to make it work. The only problem I have is the u-bolts are not long enough....I guess I will have to look for longer u-bolts to try my test.

I have one of the reproduction brackets that I have not installed.
I do however have the actual original that was used to create these reproduction pieces.
My cast iron original was loaned to make the brass replica.
Later in the day I will check one against the other to see the differences.

Would a little crank tweaking make it work?
Say going 95 degrees @ the pan & handle.
A friend installed the similar unit W/O the locking fork. No issues.
