Brass horn issues...

So I am turning my attention to the brass horn pictured. As the picture shows it does not have a junction between tubing and horn. I test fired the whole rig just touching the parts together and it worked.

. How about a brass bushing as a junction and some solder or something easier like weather strip glue? The OD of the tubing is 10/16ths (5/8ths) the horn is 9/16ths. The Hillman group has 1-1/8" Bronze Sleeve Bearing (5/8" I.D. X 3/4" O.D.) would that work?

. I've buffed it some but it is going to be a long process to get it to shine. How to get the crannies shiny if you can't get in there?

. I am worried about damaging the delicate front screen. The brass screw that holds the front piece on is stripped and won't come out easily. I tried turning and wedging another screwdriver under it but it does not progress.

Thanks in advance for my first foray into brass horn land.

Tim Wrenn can give you some tips. I tear rags into strips, apply polish, and then saw it back and forth to get to the tight spots. Is that a torpedo horn? If it is, take good care of it! Cheers, Bill

Apply clear gorilla glue sparingly between tube and horn. For ‘crannies shining’, seek out a high school brass instrument repair and restoration shop. I had good luck with a Czech down around Beeville.

Ignacio....talk about nooks and crannies!..you have it made buddy! I am flattered at Bills reference, but he pretty much summed up what I too would do. Just get in there best you can with minimal polish so it doesn't get "overloaded" (I use Blue Magic)and stroke back and forth with a soft rag. You won't be able to get 100 percent of it, but close enuf. As for the junction, its 50/50 on the argument if where the Reed goes, altho seems most do have them down at the horn rather than up at the bulb. Both of mine are. Be sure your cable is as airtight as possible. I ended up replacing mine, it just seeped enough air that I couldn't get it to honk. Boy it sounds great now.
Here's a pic of the horn I fought with on my '11 Torpedo. Not sure if its the correct style, but I do see lots if pics of Torpedoes with this horn. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

There are adapters t connect the flex pipe to the horn. You can find them on

They look like the adapter in the lower right of Tim's photo.
