Removing lamp font

Recently up graded from a 1923 Touring to a 1914 Touring. The 1914 has side lamps made by The Victor Lamp Co. I have been attempting to remove the font on the lamps to add oil, but will be damned if I can figure out how to do so. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick

See that knurled thumb nut on the right of the wick control in your 2nd picture ? Loosen it considerably and twist the font so it’s nut slides in the adjacent groove. Then the font will fall out.

Yes, loosen the thumb nut. Then slide it to the left until the slot lines up. There are 4 tangs in the font and 4 notches in the lamp base that should be lined up. However, if they are not, the font will not fall out. This one had been turned and started bending the base. The font had to be turned until the tangs lined up with the notches. Those are hidden so it has to be free to turn and you do it by feel.
If there is a lot of dried kerosene or collected corrosion, it would be good to soak it with solvent or penetrating oil.
I hope it falls out as George noted but sometimes they don't.

Thank you both for the info and pictures, very helpful. It is as I thought but did not not want to apply to much pressure out of fear of causing damage. I will try some penetrating oil in hopes it helps to loosen thing.
Like I say often, when in doubt ask the forum.
Thanks again,
Rick

After thinking a bit more I see one of the notches is the slot for the shaft that turns the wick up and down. In that case one of the tangs should be visible under that shaft when they are correctly aligned.
I'm glad you took the safe side. Too many of these fonts have been damaged and are missing. I believe prying on them was that culprit.
Best of luck.
