Found after transmission high-low speeds jammed up, but not necessarily related.

Hate to tell you, but ur trans is in trouble.
I had the same thing happen to my Fordor last May. It lost all but one of the rivets in the tail shaft as I call it. I posted about it then, with pics, but sadly my SD card screwed up this week and I lost all 890+ pics including those!

You will need to pull the engine to repair. Might as well get on it now, as you are facing total failure soon. Sorry.

Chris...I looked it up in Langs, its called the driving plate. When you have the inspection door off of the trans, you can shine a light down there where you monkey around with the 3 fingers you can see some of the rivet heads surrounding the shaft. Rotate the crank slowly and you will probly see some rivets loose and/or missing.

Regardless, from past experience, the car is destined to stop in its tracks. Sorry again buddy.

Looks like a dime.

Looks like the socket from one of the spring-loaded APCO type drag link ends. Some other styles were made with a grease cup on the end and a hole through it, so the ball could be lubed. https://www.modeltford.com/item/2728APCO.aspx How it got in there, who knows, but is not an engine part.

Ahh. Right. A dime! Knew I’d seen something like that in my pocket once.

But for the record, this mystery bit (sorry, this dime), is from a friend’s car, not mine.

Could it be part one of the little spools the hold the magnets on?

My first guess was the APCO bit too, but the busted rivet makes more sense in an engine. However, it seems too big to be a rivet head. The checks of the driven plate may reveal the true origin.

Guys...read my post...I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the Model T chandelier, but trust me, its from a MAJOR part of the transmission, I heard a bunch of "metallic rattles" in my hogshead one nice afternoon in my Fordor only to have it come to a grinding halt, fortunately at a stop sign only 2 miles from home. These came out of the screen, and then the engine came out of the car! I didn't have a dime to set down to compare, but these look awfully familiar, don't they? Luckily I did save them for times like this to show. I also had several pieces of tore up "shoes" that are in the webbing if the brake drum, as my car is a 25/26 carryover with the large brake drum. I was told this is kind of common as there was a mfg. flaw with these little shoes.
Its from the transmission shaft. The one in my pic only has 6 holes for some reason, probly an earlier version? When Joe Bell re-did mine as I recall it had 8.
The shaft pictured was from a different car and not out of my Fordor.

BTW...its not the driving plate as erroneously said last night (was dead tired)...another search showed i mea t to say transmission shaft, which I do believe is riveted to this so-called driving plate? Like I said, not an expert but always learning! Thats the fun of this hobby!

All main shafts only have 6 holes Tim - 4 for bolts & 2 for locaters to flywheel.

It doesn’t look like a rivet to me.

It is not a spool, they are brass or aluminum, which would be nonmagnetic. It is not a rivet, there are none in the engine or transmission that would be that size or have a hole through them. The cupped end does not have any apparent deformities from being run through the engine, so was made that way. Stuff gets dropped or falls in to the abyss of the transmission, would not be a first nor last time it happens, leaving people too scratch their heads wondering why and how!
The transmission gear shaft is bolted to the flywheel/crankshaft, which is what the drums ride on. The tail or output shaft that rides in the 4th main is riveted to the drive plate.

If it’s a rivet, why does it have a perfectly centered machined hole in the center? I’ve seen holes in the rivets before, but they are usually not machined and they are off center?

It almost looks like a switch knob or something. Leaning toward some type of rivet, but size is interesting though

Because the underside of the cup is tapered, now do not think it's from an aftermarket spring loaded setup, but could be.

Okay, thanks. At any rate, my money is on the exact same anamoly that I had. Hopefully the author will keep us posted on it

Wish I had the pics I took if before and after...like they say, picture worth a thousand words.

You were right the first time. Those rivets you've shown have nothing to do with the transmission shaft you've pictured.

Thanks Jerry. I'll admit these trannies screw me up keeping things sorted out! I kinda wondered when I posted it, and welcome the edification!
If I only didn't lose all my previous pics! I'm looking for my old posts that should have them.
I'm still sure this guy is having the same issue.

Found my previous post on my transmission rivet issue...May 9th.
Take a look...see if you think, like I do, given his pic and my pic of the broken rivet above in this thread if THIS is indeed his issue. Thanks!
