Wow. Never gave that a thought, but those vinyl tops wouldn't stand a chance in a large hail storm.

the hoods dont look like they liked it much either.

If you think it does damage on an old car, you should see what it does to the plastic on a modern car. Impact hard plastics do not stand a chance!

Yeh, and hate to say it being a die-hard Ford fan, but I do worry a little about hail on my aluminum F150!!

Hail can total any automobile.

I had no idea hail could be that damaging. I have never seen it bigger than a pea. It just makes a pinging noise and I can walk out in it without getting hurt.

I keep moving blankets in my truck, been caught in a hail storm before, and a wet moving blanket draped across the flat hood and cab surfaces saved me some grief.

Biggest hail I ever saw was about three years ago here at the house in Grass Valley. The largest pieces were slightly smaller than ping pong balls (the size of a quarter!)! Fortunately, all our cars were partially under cover from our large trees. No damage done. But the sound! Yikes! Even inside the house one wanted to duck!

On the way to my first Pate swap meet, A buddy & I, We noticed all the trucks got off the road & filled up the rest stops not far from the meet the night before our arrival. We noticed some serious looking black clouds & lightning. We thought there might be a tornado ahead. We stayed @ that rest stop instead of getting any closer. Next mourning, the local car dealer was hawking their giant new car hail sale. Being a native left coaster, I thought it a neat marketing gimmick, like "come see my dog spot"(Cal Worthington) When we got to the meet we saw the carnage of 'Baseball sized hail" Trucks looked like they were attacked by angry ball peen hammers. Wind shields shattered. Awnings were shredded. So glad we stopped that night. Had no idea. That was a real education on weather, real weather.

Almost twenty years ago, we were living on Califunny's North coast when the since-records-were-kept rainfall record was broken. A more than two inch an hour rainstorm in very high winds! The next morning, my 1988 Chevrolet Suburban tow vehicle had numerous places, two more than a foot square, where the paint was gone!
By the way, we were out in it most of the night as the high winds had broken a power line and set the next door neighbor's house on fire! In spite of the rain, we spent half the night hosing down our house and barn while the local fire department kept fighting the fire at the next door house. Sadly, their house was a total loss. The wind whipped flames were just too much and soaking wet outside the house burned from the inside out.

In San Jose Califunny, at work, a tornado took down an antenna tower that we did not install, however had fully inspected and knew it was very well done by whoever did install it. Quarter inch aircraft cable was used to guy the tower, and attached to the outrigger section to prevent twisting. This was not some big mid-West monster tornado, Califunny doesn't get those. Just some wimpy little F1. The quarter inch aircraft cables were stretched until they snapped! Aircraft cable is much stronger than normal quarter inch steel cables.

Oh yeah, what severe weather can do boggles the mind!
