Hello from the Museum!

Hello! I am Micaela Knox, and I began recently as the Model T Museum's new museum and education coordinator! I am currently in IUPUI's museum studies graduate certificate program and previously I worked at the David Owsley Museum of Art. I am excited to work with the museum and expand on its offerings to include a broader diversity of perspectives.

I am learning an incredible amount about the Model T. I would love to expand my new knowledge with different sociocultural contexts. I'm sure I will be posting plenty of questions during my research, so I would greatly appreciate if anyone had any tidbits, fun facts or "did you know"s about my topics of interest.

If anyone would like to talk further, please feel free to reply to this thread or send me an email! micaela@mtfca.com

Welcome aboard! Hope to meet you someday at the museum. You'll be flooded with all sorts of info soon! Eventually you may even want to get one of your own.

Micaela,

Welcome to the family of Cranky Old People who are all about Cranky Old Cars. :-) You have an elephant's worth of knowledge to adsorb so be careful to only take one bite at a time!!

By the way, what does IUPUI stand for.

Have a great day,
Dom

I would recommend 3 field trips. The Henry Ford, the Gilmore, and the Museum of American Speed. You wont have to leave the Midwest. I hope you hear the story of the Rip Van Winkle T as well.

James,

Thanks for the post. I never would have guessed it when I read it. I look forward to visiting the museum to meet Rachel, Micaela and see what all of our fine volunteers have accomplished at some point down the road.

Have a great evening,

Dom

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! I am still building my knowledge base, but I am already becoming known as a Model T nerd among my friends (lol!) It's getting hard NOT to talk about Model Ts.

Welcome aboard.
If you would like to learn more about different sociocultural Model T contexts go to a resource very near to you; "The Bruce McCalley Memorial Library and Research Center" at MTFCA HQ in Richmond Indiana.
Forty years ago I set out to collect every known Ford related book I could find (I had to forego periodicals or be massssssiviely overwhelmed with information). I scoured every bibliography of every next book I found, looked for a copy of that source and bought it.
I am an old man now, finially ran out of space at home and donated all these books in Bruce's name to the MTFCA Library a few years ago.
Start with the three volume Ford trilogy(commissioned to Alan Nevins at Columbia University in1950''s and is still considered to be the definative history), for a less than flattering veiwpoint try "Life in the Shadow of the Crystal Palace" or "A Ford Dealers Twenty Year Ride" and there are many others that are in books I collected and dedicated to Bruce based on his lifelong technical chronology and documentation of the Model T Ford.
Lastly do not overlook any work by David Lewis (University of Michigan Professor of Business History) who stands above all others in breadth and unbiased Henry Ford historian
Good luck
