Another generator question

My friend has a generator that is "questionable." It has a John Regan voltage regulator but he's not sure of it's mechanical condition.
1.) Who near Michigan would be a good choice to rebuild it, and
2.) What would it take to convert it to 12 volts?

Tim,
The T (and A) generators are current devices. They'll happily charge a 12V battery without need for conversion.
If your friend's unit has a regulator then it's likely that would need to be changed for 12V operation, if it's a cutout then there is no need.

You may want to make an inquiry on one of the Michigan Universities having an Electrical Engineering department.Making it 12 volts shouldn't be much of a challenge as there are 12 volt ones & maybe some are still available (Lang's lists them and doesn't indicate out-of-stock) Whomever works on it needs to know that a Model T generator uses a 3rd brush, not a conventional generator.

The fun projects regulators only work for the voltage designed. There are 3 - 6v, 8v, 12v.
If you are going to charge 12v, !/2 the generator output. 4 amps should be plenty.
