I have a Chicago Mark-E transmission and would like to know if anyone would have the modern numbers for the tapered roller bearings in it. They are Bock bearings and no one seems to be able to ID them. Thank You for any help. Dan

Does your case say patent pending? I had a couple I was messing with and the patent pending bearings were made of unubtainium.
Mr Morsher may have some answers for you.

Are you sure it has tapered bearings in it? Most of these use ball bearings, at least in the ones I have. Opps- on edit, mine have tapered roller bearings as well.
If you have accurate ID, OD and width dimensions, its pretty easy to find the Timken equivalents. Post the info here and I'll look them up.

From my poor memory , the early ones are made a bit different in many areas. I don’t remember exactly but don’t think they will interchange and have the chunky looking tapered roller bearings in them. I only went through a couple of the later ones, which were nice, and the timkens were in great shape. Great transmissions, but I’d look for a later one, like Mike mentioned .

They looked like this. I’d take Dan up on the offer. It used to be easy, every little town around these parts had a bearing supply store with knowledgeable counter men. No more.

Thank You all for your reply's. What I have is 2 transmissions, both have the Bock tapered roller bearings in them. They are different as one is made fore 2 u joints (front and rear) and the other just uses a rear joint and has a square shaft in the front that goes directly in to the Ford trans. What I was missing is some the outer cups, one for the large input shaft bearing and two for the lower cluster gear shaft. I found a bearing supply house that interchanged the cup numbers to current Timken numbers and ordered them (the price was Not Cheap but they can get them). I still have to make two of the threaded retainers that hold the cups in.
Since these are bolted directly to the back of the Ford trans. do I need a frame mounted bracket to help support it? One is going to go in a TT and the other in a roadster.
Once the trans. are done then the fun begins cutting the drive shafts and tubes to make them fit, any ideas on doing this would be appreciated. Thank again ---Dan Greger

The bearings shown in Tim's picture are what was used by Dodge, my 1920 has those on the spindles and full floating rear end.
Support for rear of transmission; I would look into at least adding some type of floating support. That still is a lot of weight hanging off the 4 little 3/8" bolts. Do a search of "mtfca transmission support", you should be able to find a number of ideas.

Mark, it’s been a year or two, but I don’t remember any ball bearings in the Chicago trans, and I had both versions here all apart. Could have forgot, I guess. Dan, I have an original trans support strap here. Drop me an email
tmorsher@icloud.com and I’ll send a picture. T

I looked thru my notes and bearing drawer and all I have a record of is the front input shaft cup is a Timken #3120. The mating cone is a Timken #3196.
Hope this helps.

I use a KC Warford in my 1914 Touring and I use the support listed in Lang’s catalog. It’s a little expensive and I’m sure I could make something similar but I needed it in a hurry. While there is no requirement to provide support at the end of the Warford, I was concerned that the mass hanging at the back of the tranny was just too much. No sums, just instincts.
