I removed the generator on my '27 T yesterday to further investigate fore and aft play in the shaft. I found not only the fore and aft play, about 3/32", but noticed that the gear is slightly loose on the shaft. It doesn't rock, but it can rotate a thousandth or two on the shaft. Both pin and key are in place, and the pin appears tight. The bearings show no discernable radial play. I'm concerned that, over time, the gear will loosen further. I also noticed a wad of material behind the cam gear near the generator mounting hole. I fished it out and found that it was a round piece of wire screen that had been about 1 to 1 1/8" in diameter. It appears to have dropped out of the oil filler cap and been been snagged by the generator drive gear and then somehow lodged behind the cam gear. About 15 % of the wire is unaccounted for. I could see no damage to the cam or generator gear. The remnant of the screen disc still fits nicely into the oil filler cap.

Hopefully, if you do change your oil those missing pieces may drain out.

I would like to know where they are. I recently changed the oil, , and the screen in the hogshead cover, which has a magnet, showed nothing alarming, but I don't know when the oil cap screen came out. It's possible the missing fragments were worn to a fine powder, since the screen was dragging lightly on the rear face of the cam gear.

If the magneto is still present in your T pieces may be riding on some of the magnets….

Still have a working mag. I'll see if I can get a look at the magnets thru the hogshead cover.
