Late Gas Tank Cap

Post by Original Smith » Sat Oct 23, 2021 1:33 pm

I have a 1925 with the new style gas tank cap. For over ten years, the diffuser plate has been a part of the cap, until recently. I used a telescoping magnet to get the plate out of the gas tank. It snapped back into place nicely. What I tried this time is I ran Krazy Glue around the edge. It will be interesting to see if that does the trick.

I wouldn't expect any glue to hold it. My '27 has such a cap. It appears to be made of some sort of pot metal. Pot metal usually resists any attempt to repair it.

It actually did snap back in. I got gas yesterday, and it still is in there.

If it gets loose again, you might be able to carefully stake it with a sharp punch.
