I believe the glass thickness was 3/16". One of the T catalogs says it is only available in 1/4". Is this correct? Would using 1/4" present any problems?

Put this in the "everything you kniw is wrong" dept. I expect more knowledgeable posts will educate us both.

In the sainted days of yore, glass, like everything else made in this country was sized to common English measure. Sometime in the early 60's, glass began to be manufactured to a metric standard. Laminated safety glass which had previously been made 1/4" was now 5mm thick, about .20".

On our Canadian sourced cars I believe the windscreen glass was 1/4". Most replacements these days are 6mm, which is a tad less than 1/4" This can be very helpful when trying to fit replacement glass into an old original brass mounting channel. %mm is getting down to the lighter weight glass used in modern cars.

I agree, Allan, 1/4" plate was used in US model Ts as well. 6mm modern glass is .0145" thinner than the original, I reckon as close to original as we can get nowadays. It almost goes without saying that all glass in using cars should be safety glass.

I'm working on changing out the old glass in a 1927 Canadian Tudor so dashed to the workshop to measure up the glass thicknesses.

The Driver's & Passenger's door glass measure up at 0.255" and the windshield shows 0.169".

The door glass is likely original as they match each other and pretty well agree with the mention of 1/4" original glass. However, the windshield could have been changed out along the way so this thinner measurement is suspect as to a match to the original size.
