1910 Tourabout Build

Hello everyone. I wanted to post a photo of my "1910" tourabout build. Yes, it is a bitsa car with a Ray Wells body I purchased about a year ago from Ned Protexter in Iowa, but it is finally starting to look like a car. The paint scheme on original tourabouts was the dark green, but I went with the 1909 touring red/black color scheme. She is not a car for the purist, but I sure bet that she will be some fun to drive and show.

I also wanted to give a shout out to John Tannehill, who I believe is one of the hobby's best ambassadors. Thank you John for your help and encouragement when things got frustrating last year in trying to locate top irons and lamps!

The first picture is current status. The second photo is what I am aiming for (I sure wish they sold white tires that stay white!).

All the best,
Mike

I am pleased to see the car going together. It will be a wonderful car. While you know what could be different about it 99% of the people who enjoy it will not know or care. There may be things you feel free to do that some of the museum pieces aren't able to.
Keep us posted.

Mike,

It is looking great. I'm really glad to see something being done with the body. Drive the wheels off of it.

The tourabout is my favorite model T body styles but the year makes it out of range for my pocketbook. A few years ago there was a tourabout for sale on this website but no one wanted to buy it. Is this beautiful car calls for a discriminating taste or what. Love the car and color and everything about it. Good luck on the completion and as they say, drive the wheels off of it, with pride. With the help of my 16-year old son, we got the fenders, running boards, splash aprons and body mounted today. It was challenging getting everything to fit properly. I am looking forward to the next phase of her build and first drive.

All the best,
Mike Hanson

Thanks Dan. It was a pleasure meeting you last year. Our next project is fabricating the buggy rail.

Well, I believe our first project build is officially finished. 16 months from start to finish.

My son and I fabricated the top from scratch (burnt up two sewing machines in the process...lol). It is not perfect, but presentable. That kind of work makes you really appreciate the skills of Elizabeth and Mike at Classtique. Thanks to Russ Furstnow for sending me photos of his 1909 touring top. They came in real handy.

My wife and I toured around our neighborhood today for the first time and "Dixie" sure got a lot of thumbs up. We started this build back in April/May 2018 with a tourabout body we purchased from Ned Protexter, a Ross Lilleker-built 1918 long block, and a lot of spare parts gathered up over the years. I have to give another shout out to John Tannehill from the great state of Mississippi for helping me procure "dog leg" top sockets and assorted brass bits.

My wife and I hope to start showing the car this fall after I complete a full round of brass polishing! ;)

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement along the way.

Kind regards,
The Hansons

Absolutely wonderful. Mike you and Jen will have a blast. So very happy for the family. By the way Junebug has been a Godsend. I’ve logged over a thousand of mind clearing miles with her. Mike & Jen thank you for helping me dig out of of feeling sorry for me, ha. That little T has been the magic tonic I needed.

Best JT

How could anybody really argue against something that comes out looking like that!? Beautiful! Now, enjoy it!

I have most of a late 1912 open (MIL?) roadster project pile. I wonder if I could get away with making a similar tourabout? I do KNOW Ford did not offer them that year. But it does get tempting.

I am so pleased to see young people being involved in the hobby. Some of my best memories are of resurrecting a rusted out Mercedes sedan with a buddy, working in a chicken coop with minimal tools and gallons of bondo. His mom sewed the seat covers for us. We drove that thing all over northern Ohio and had a blast! I hope your helper will have as much fun in the hobby!

Congratulations, Bill
