The wife and I made it to the big shindig happening in Iola Kansas Tuesday and Wednesday. I have been to Model T Haven too many times to not show up for the party. Probably will not buy much, but I hope to add a few things to the accessory collection. Will go out tomorrow and do the pre auction inspection. Then we will be here for both days of the sale. I at least hope to get some pictures to post later. We brought the RV camper to stay in, 4 days rent is less than 100 dollars with our RV park discount cards. After all, I need to save every penny for the treasures. I emptied everything out of the camper to make room for some small treasures and the pickup bed is empty. Maybe we will get to meet some of the Forum folks if some of ya'll make it. I probably can not post pics till we get home. Time to go to bed now. I'll need all the energy I can muster, over the next few days.

PS, My son and daughter have 2 full size trucks with 20 foot trailers on standby in Arkansas in case Dad has a lapse of good judgement. (It has happened before)

Post here anything special (and small) that you need for me to watch for . ... I'll check back here tomorrow evening ...

Just a lil jog for me but because it’s in the middle of week I won’t be going because of work. Sad to see it go but hope all who goes can load up. I did however in the past weeks try to buy what I could and had them ship it to me but I didn’t make a dent.

Went out this morning, not many "lookers"yet. Things are laid out in rows. No real order to anything. They have tried to lay out "body piles" . Most piles are rough but workable. The back lot will be a disaster Just pile after pile after pile. All the e-bay auction items are just laid out in a couple rows. The auction start time has moved to 11:00 am. Maybe an attempt to give folks time to look. So far they are saying it will be a "single ring" but there is a 10 percent buyers fee.

So far no 18 coupe parts that I can recognize and no Hayes hubcaps. I will be going back after lunch. I may OD on rusty T Junk, but what a way to go.

Tim, I have seen a Rajo exhaust manifold ND some neat carbs. That's about it. Lots of accessory items mixed in with the rows and piles.

First day is done. They sold the back lot stuff today. In my opinion stuff went cheap
There were a few good things mixed in with the piles. Things of note that a I remember.
An almost complete snowmobile setup. Had a real nice set of skies and spindles,a nos pair of rear idler wheels and what appeared to be a nos set of tracks as well as a narrowed frame that appeared to be factory narrowed for a snowmobile. I bid it to 600.00 for all it sold for 650.00
There was a nice weaver tire changer that I bid to 100.00 and it sold for 110.00
There was a complete late 30s Lincoln sedan V12 engine aluminum body ,It was a pretty decent project car sold for 2000.00
They would section off 20 to 30 foot of parts and sell choice starting at 30.00. The everything else was sold as a pile. Then move onto the next section. Most of the 30 foot or so sections sold for about 100.00 to 300.00
I would guess that about 1/2 of the section piles sold to individuals the other half was bought by the 3 obvious scrappers that were there.
Will be back out tomorrow for the rows of tubs and smaller items that are laid out in the front 1/2 of the property.

Saw Steve Jelf today and got to visit a little with him. Maybe he can posts some pictures.. We are about out of data on the phone and the wi-fi is terrible at the RV park. So I will have to wait till I get home to post pics. Met a few other folks that I've known for years. The weather was great and since I did not buy much today was able to visit a lot.

I stayed until noon today. I left before they got into the big piles of parts but I thought most stuff was selling cheap. All I bought was this frame with some crazy after-market springs. It has a dipped front axle and a Warford driveshaft I can use if nothing else.

Donnie, They have had a Weaver tire machine on their eBay site for a long time on a "Buy it now" for $600, it is gone as of 11/11. from eBay.

Is that a Dodge chassis? Or maybe an "assembled car" based on a Ford, like a Porter?

I am fairly sure the chassis is an aftermarket kit to convert a T to full elliptic springs. It has a Warford shortened driveshaft as well as a Warford trans support cross brace. There is also some kind of aftermarket brake actuators for the rear brakes ??? I'm glad you bought it. I looked it over very well today and tried to point it out to any T people I saw. I really wanted it myself but no way to easily get it home

The Weaver tire changer on the web site is the one that sold today. All the e-bay auctions were active till today. He must have ended them all today. Everything was still for sale yesterday but no sales of items this morning. The snowmobile parts were also on e-bay till this morning. The snowmobile parts were 2 separate e-bay auctions. I believe the combined buy it now price of the snowmobile parts was about 6000.00 it sold today for 600.00
Tomorrow will be the rest of the e-bay auction stuff and lots of small items in boxes and trays.

Brian, like Donnie noted, that frame has aftermarket accessory springs front and rear to take the load off the axles. The unit was made in Mich.

Likely a bit rare, doubt many were sold.

When Donnie and I were looking at that spring kit yesterday I told him that Dan would probably have a picture of it.

The second day crowd was considerably smaller than yesterday's turnout. Yesterday's nice weather, in the seventies, went south. Today was in the low fifties, which would have been OK if not for the strong north wind. A lot of East Central Kansas T's members were there both days, as well as some from other states. Today I had a little visit with Russ Potter while I waited for something I wanted to come up for sale. He told of his son's broken arm while cranking, and I told the story of mine.

I bought just a few things, and might have bought more if I hadn't gone to my car to reload with more tissues for my snot-fountain nose, the thing I hate most about cold weather.

I got a box of nuts and bolts, plus another one Donnie donated, as it was in a batch of stuff he bought to get something else. I bought a pile of manifolds that turned out to be a dozen exhaust and two dozen intake. I'll straighten any of the exhaust manifolds that need it, keep a couple for me, and sell the rest. Ditto the intakes, except I won't have to straighten them. The best thing I got was a pair of 15-16 steering columns I can use to make a good one and replace the later one that's in my 1915.

Donnie is looking, but I don't think he bought any radiators. When I see an old radiator for sale, my question is always, "Why isn't it on a car anymore?" The obvious answer is the reason I don't buy old radiators.

"Pick out the ones you want, then we'll sell the rest.

I would hate to see rear axles go to scrap when they are full of Hyatt bearings.

Not to mention ring & pinion gears! But I feel a little better when I think about the reason those axles might be in the pile and the effort to salvage something good!

As a hobbyist, enthusiast, and idiot I can relate to the hoarding with over collecting. GUILTY as charged, constantly thinking someone in need could use this another day. Another day goes by but the piles become more and more and Dear Mother Nature wants her babies back to the good earth. Obsession, Passion, Dedication to anything takes it tolls on us and sometimes controls our lives. I hope this finds Mark and Family content with their decisions and happiness in retirement. He always has been straight up with me and Dad over the years. It would cost a fortune to disassembly everything, clean, inspect, catalog, preserve, store inside. Dad and I did this as hobbyist for awhile, but to store enough inside for about 12 cars in parts is not cheap in property, facilities, taxes, and maintenance.

These are some of the reasons why I am retiring from the Model T's, Love them and the experience with Dad, but no children to pass it on to or younger interest locally. Reality needs to be a compass to me. My aging and unable to do certain things to a standard I like, reminds me to pass the torch now while there is an interest. I now know why elders of my youth gave me things as I now am becoming the grumpy old man.

Sure could use those pinion bearing spools for cores and any good 26/27 non drain plug housings for Ruckstell cores!

I estimate that the scrappers bought at least 80 % of the T stuff on Tuesday.
I hope I am wrong and some of the buyers were volumn T buyers.

If the scrappers are smart, they'll lay a lot of the stuff out and sell it on ebay, etc. China already has enough of our scrap resource.

Ever wonder why North American Brand cars rust out and Asian Brand cars don't?

I have been to model T haven several times and even stayed overnight more than once with Mark and Mary. There was always new andifferent stuff Every time I went There and I usually left some money behind when I left. Mark also bought more than a little bit from me. The last time I was there in September before the auction I came away with a late 13 frame and a reasonably complete 1910 project.
I know the real reason for the closing up and sale. Mark always treated me well and I'm proud to call him a friend. I wish them both well in their new adventure.

Mark's site was always one of my "saved searches" on eBay, I hope he resumes listing there when he gets settled in his new digs.

We made it home about dark. Too tired to do anything tonight. I'll try to post my pics tomorrow. I did not get as many pics as I wanted . It's was just too overwhelming to even try to show it all in pics. And between bidding, loading , and visiting with folks, pictures were sometimes forgotten. I ended up with all I could get to fit in the short bed Tacoma, and I had about a dozen boxes of stuff under the bed in the RV. I'm not even sure what I bought. Most of his e-bay auctions were sealed in plastic bags and the auction number written on the bag. Each box was full of bags and most items were not visible thru the bag. . I just looked at enough items to get a idea of a price per box. I had estimated that I could give about 100.00 per box and come out very well on just what I knew for sure was there. I gave an average of 21.00 per box. I brought a couple boxes in tonight (the suspense was killing me) So far it appears I underestimated the amount of stuff that was in those bags. So far the boxes of bags are way better than I thought. The way they presented the e-bay items, in my opinion, was a big mistake. They should have been spread out on a table and sold as choice. The probably would have sold for 10 times the amount they sold for.
I think that probably 50 percent of the back lot went for scrap. The radiators were sold as choice for about 40.00 to 60.oo each. Not sure how many were bought as choice price. Maybe a dozen at most. There was a scrapper who bid 37.50 each and they counted them at that price . There were 171 of them. Most were for Model Ts but there was also Chevy, Buick, Olds,Dodge,Whippet, etc in the pile. A few were usable, or good as wall hangers, but most were scrap at best.

Here are the photos I took at the auction. Just some general photos of the items for sale. They in no way even come close to showing the scale of the sale and amount of items there. Glen, I am so sorry that it did not even cross my mind to buy the driveshaft spools shown in one of my pics. They probably went for little to nothing. But I was not there when they sold, so I do not know what they brought. After the fact I can think of other things I should have done but just so much to see and things sold so quickly ...

The following photos are of some of the things I bought or of some of the extra things that were in the piles I bought. The first pic is of a power unit. I think it is a "Farm Power" but will have to research it a little more. It jacks up the rear end and then two small pulley like wheels on a shaft run against the rear tires and turn the shaft for power to a pulley also on the shaft. I already had the shaft, bearings and pulley but will have to make the two small pulley/wheels that run against the tires. I have added some comments on some of the photos. Kinda hard to see some of the comments unless looking for them ... I still have not gone thru all the bags in the boxes yet. Its like a early Christmas ... Overall we had a very good time, met and visited some good people, and had a nice 4 day vacation trip with old car parts. and if Im lucky Ill be able to sell enough of the extras and duplicates to help pay for the gas.

Donnie, that exhaust manifold sure looks like the one on my 1912 Flanders 20, or it might be for the larger EMF 30. I know Mark F. has had some EMF 30 parts for sale on eBay in the past. The first two attached pics are of the engine in my 1912 Flanders 20, the next two pics are from a 1912 EMF 30.

Edit - looking more closely at the spacing between the two center ports, I would say it is for an EMF 30. The two center ports on the Flanders manifold are closer together.

If you have no use for it, I would be interested in it, if for no other reason than to make sure it gets to someone with an EMF 30 that can use it.

I'll never find myself in this situation but I'll never understand it either. You know you're getting out. You've got "stuff" beyond anyone's imagining but you just can't let it go. Even at insanely reduced prices or even free for cryn' out loud. Now it goes to the scrappers. Is there a moral to this story?

I would have tried to avoid a fire sale.

I was recently at a collection liquidation auction such as this and got some awesome deals and now lament some of the items I did not bid on... congratulations to those who found treasure's at this auction! It is fun to see all your photos. I also congratulate the owner of the Haven for liquidating their assets and moving on in their life doing what they want to do and for giving the hobbyists a chance to buy that diamond in the rough at auction. They easily could have just called the scrapers and not went through the trouble and expense of an auction. And that would have been a shame. Bravo Model T Haven. Bravo.

I think that a series of 3 or 4 auctions over the last couple of years would have netted a good deal more return to the owner and gotten a good deal more of the material into the hands of people who could appreciate it or re-sell it in times to come.

Yes that manifold is EMF. I sold to Mark three EMF cars and my extra parts and that manifold was among the extras

Mark and Dale, Thanks for identifying the manifold. It was with some other things I bought. I'll try to make sure it gets to someone who can use it.

As to all the "body parts piles" They sold choice of a few bodies, but most of them bid as a lot of all of the body piles for 175.00. Mark did not accept the bid. When I left a little while later, Mark and his two employees were stacking all the body parts up. I think they were going to put them in storage to deal with later.

OT, but one interesting thing I found out about my Flanders exhaust manifold - the exhaust ports are the same size as a big block Chevrolet! I needed new gaskets to fit around the gland rings, so I measured the ports and found that a big block chevy header gasket made a perfect donor.
