How does one remove windshield glass to replace with laminated—without breaking it? I have a ‘25 pickup.

After removing the retainers, I C-clamp two long pieces of pine near the edge of the glass. Then I tap the edges of the wood, alternating ends until the glass slides out.

Yes, without breaking it.

Use light taps and watch for the slight movement and then do the same to the opposite side.

Wear heavy leather gloves and a heavy jacket!

One of my brothers was helping my mom replace a cracked window pane in her kitchen. The glass slipped and sliced the wrist of his right (dominant) hand deeply. He was rushed to the hospital where they did microsurgery to reconnect the nerves, then stitched up the wound. His hand has never been the same, he had been a mechanic and eventually had to go on disability because he lost all feeling in that hand and couldn't turn wrenches or even grip much with it any more. :(

A bathroom “snap hook” suction cup affixed to the glass makes it easier to pull out of the channel.

The auto glass shop is the best answer on two counts. Give them the job of getting the old glass out, and fitting the new laminated glass too. If that breaks/cracks, they get to fix it.
