Mystery Bolts

Hey All,

During the weekend I started a new project.
Repairing a 1915 touring with an accident.

On the right side of the hoghead I found two "Mystery Bolts".
Does someone out there have an idea why these bolts are there and what is the use of these bolts??

I'd venture a WAG that it was an attempt to keep the brake band centered on the drum to pull both sides evenly - obviously the reverse bolt was too short or broken off ?

I see that the reverse bolt had been sawed off !

It may have been equipped with outside band adjusters at one time.

Or, an rusted up hogs that needed the shafts punched out for restoration, holes drilled then plugged up.

No, No, this is not a 1st April joke.

They are there.
The most believable reason is that the hoghead was very rusty. To push out the pedal shafts someone drill two holes and plug them with the bolts.
I will grind them flat and weld them at the outside to secure them.
