Saw this on Ebay and was wondering if anyone else had seen it? It was listed as being 1-5/8" and the only thing that I know of on the car that is that size is the hubcaps.

I wouldn't have guessed that but it fits the one in the pictures to a T. :D
Nice detective work.

That’s neat! I didn’t think it would take a wrench like that to tighten up the hubcaps but I guess it did. Using one that big you would strip the hubcap if you weren’t careful. The combination ones that are really common aren’t as good as that one. It would be easier on your hand.

It looks to be a 24 or later chassis on the line he’s working on. The picture has 24 on the corner so maybe that’s when the picture was taken?

That is the 10,000,000th Model T.

In one of the photos in the listing you could see that it was/is marked 3Z with a couple of faint numbers beyond that.

Pep, You did not let us know if you were the high bidder. I am aware of you "search skills" so if you got it, I say "well played"

I would love to say yes, I did get it, but that would not be true. I found it while looking through completed listings (trying to keep an eye on "asking prices vs. getting prices" prices). It ended last week and brought an outrageous $27.00, plus shipping.

But, I was able to pick-up a decent '14 horn last week. No mention of Model T, Rubes or Nonpareil in the description, rather "vintage car door horn". Not too bad of condition overall.

Oh well, can't win them all. I have never seen that wrench before. I found it in completed listing after you posted it here. So I thought maybe you got it.

There is a similar Ford wrench for the rear axle nuts, but it's 15/16, not 1-5/8.

Nice find on eBay and thanks for sharing.

This wrench is listed in Bruce's CD as:

3Z-701 HUB CAP WRENCH (Booklet, “Service Equipment for Ford Agents”

If you have tried putting a new hub cap on, the threads are stiff, so a long wrench instead of the simple flat T-1349 wrench supplied with the tool kit is much better. And pretty sure on the factory line, that larger wrench was best for pre-load of grease in the hub cap, and screwing down the cap to add more grease the front bearings.

Made this one from a hub cap wrench, more leverage, and works for loading the cap with grease too.

In other words it’s a factory and dealership wrench I would think. Nice find and probably not to common. Another Ford item that probably was auctioned off or gotten rid of as Model T’s were outdated and the dealerships were being updated.

I usually put them with my hand only. I just snug it down till it stops. sometimes I need the wrench to take one off. I have never used a new hub cap and the ones I have used went on just fine by hand.

I also wondered about using a wrench on the hubcap. I have some old hubcaps that looks like they were rounded off some and caused buy the common hubcap wrench I guess.

In thinking about it the assembly line worker and service center workers probably appreciated a wrench and especially if you were on the line installing 2-300 or more hubcaps a day. Having a comfortable handle makes a lot of difference.
