This carbide generator came with the 1912 model T I bought about 5 years ago. It is not correct, in fact far from it. Looks home made but cute with the Ford logo. There is no guts in it, but I have a spare screen if needed, but it is for show only, not functioning.
Do you think it would be alright to put it on the running board or it is too weird.
Would you put this on your car?

If you like it, put it on. Unless you are going to a prewar concours, no one will know the difference.

Too cool not to have some fun with.., Some might have to do some research or scratch their head bald!

Put it on and keep snacks inside for those long Sunday drives….

I'm with Andre. Most people don't know what the darn things are anyway. If you want to show it in competitive shows or just want the satisfaction of having the correct one you can always change it when the right one comes along. I would certainly use it on one of my cars.

I would think they did. Maybe couldn’t find a brass generator or couldn’t afford one. I think the beauty of the model T is the owner then & now could / can add to it based upon their need and what they could afford. I would imagine that almost from the first owner to the current custodian people added or subtracted from their original car. The brilliance of the model T and its longevity is the ordinary person could work on it and that it was very forgiving no matter whom mucked it up. While I enjoy a vehicle that looks like it just came off the production line, those are restorations. I dare say that an original T is a small & very finite number. Enjoy the effort of creation through necessity and what you have available.

Not knowing about these, I have a question on function. I have seen the old carbide headlamps the miners used, and know the general function. Do these units produce any significant pressure. I do know acetylene is heavier than air so...general explanation would be appreciated.

Is there an acetylene bottle small enough to fit inside that?
