The Colorado fastener list only deals with chassis parts. What belongs in this hole?

Nothing - shouldn't be there.

My ‘16 has that hole as do other cars I’ve seen. I have only seen black round head slotted machine screws used there.

Steve, I think by now you probably have a feel for what my 1915 body is, and what it isn't. I have no way of knowing if these round head slotted screws have always been in these holes, but all the same doesn't look like they've ever been removed either. I'll let you decide.

Please note the bolts in the driver cowl wood below are not original. That partocular section was rotten and missing one bolt on my car and Dad fitted a new 3" or so piece and found and old looking nut and bolt from one of his T parts cans. Then painted the new wood lightly with flat black to make it look old. Ha.

My 15’s had that hole, and I don’t recall anything going there. When my dad needed a starter in his Runabout we placed a button switch to control a solenoid there. Not original, but it was very low profile.

All 1915 cars have that hole. All cars had a round head slotted bolt with a nut on the back side.

But it's a round hole. I expect the hole for a carriage bolt would be square.

Is there another piece of metal behind what is visible? If so, I'd put a round head slotted screw in it to secure the joint.

I stand corrected - never had a "modern" open car !

Two options: Use a slot head screw or get a carriage bolt, file off the corners a bit. Either way just so it will match.
