When in need, I've used a literal stick. I really only have three measurements.

That's a lot of gas
I'm OK on gas
Geez, I better get some gas

You are talking about a go, no-go stick.
I have one for my Farmall A and for the 1922 Coupe.
The stick is simple to use.
The higher the wetness on the stick the further you can go.
If the stick is dry. it is a no-go.

Have a few from over the years. The one with the small notches on the edges was cute, someone made those with a pen knife I would guess.

The flat black painted one with white model airplane dope numerals and lines is one I made as a teenager, it works well too, can still see the wet gas line easily. Maybe was thinking ahead that at one time my eyes would need large number font!

I was interested in the fuel level vs volume. I found 2 calibrated sticks from various vendors and a chart on the internet. These were plotted as shown on the attachment.

Bottom line. I keep the level above half way, because I never know when Tim will lead us to a 8 percent grade.
