Before I delve into this.
Does anyone know how to remove this style wheel ? I think I can figure it out, but don't want to do anything wrong and damage it.
I would like to grease the gearbox.
The tag has been polished smooth, I'm not sure what brand it is. Just an advertisement logo on the horn ring.

Thanks Mark, none of those wheels look the same as mine, however.
Does anyone know the brand ?
If I figure it out, I will put some more pics on.

When law enforcement needs to read ground off numbers and letters their lab uses an acid solution to "raise" the letters. The area that is stamped has compressed metal and the solution makes the numbers and letters visible again. You may want to research how they do it and try it on your steering wheel tag to see if you can identify the manufacture.

I got it apart and back together.
Some grease had oozed out and not much in the gear case.
The horn button base unscrewed off and the nut was under it. Came off pretty easy.
The screws in the spider were not tight enough and the wheel would rattle. I think I have that fixed too.
The only play I see is in the gear case to column where it is riveted and it's not bad enough to worry about.

My wheel is a match to yours I haven't needed to take it off. The plate on the spoke reads Underwriters Labritories Inspected Automobile Lock Group NO 2 then a box with a number stamped in it.

Well that's rather odd...
I saw nothing on the lock mechanism either.

Dave, the oval plate is likely just an underwriters plate. Really not much info on that. Pretty sure that wheel was made in Elyria Ohio. I cannot remember the name but it will come to me. Maybe “Elyria Standard Products”. The metal ring around the horn button allowed private labeling, and I’d guess if you bought enough of them they would put your name on them. They are very easy to convert to a “fat man” wheel, and I know at least two are out there somewhere in the world that I converted. I have one just like it on my hack, and I think it may have come from you. Well made steering wheel. Elyria , Ohio was known for many, many products made for the auto and bicycle industry. I was born there, so of special interest to me.
For what it’s worth, in my opinion the rolls Royce of accessory steering wheels were made about a half hour southwest, in Spencer Ohio. Really outstanding workmanship in any of the many models of Spencer Steering Wheels!

Tim, I think the one I sold you was a little different.
Possibly there was more than one spider over the same mechanism ?
Mine says The Burns Motor Co. Ford dealers Akron Ohio, on the horn ring.
Curiosity mainly, finding a brand name.
I got it all lubed and tight, so I'm good. I do like it and it adds a little conversation.

You are correct, I got mine from a local friend. The one I got from you was different. My Elyria made wheel is identical to yours, except the nameplate. I’m getting the old girl unwrapped this weekend from hibernation. I’ll post pics. I’m sticking with the thought that this company made them to be private labeled. I’ve seen them with a plain ring, and now with yours, it would be easy to change that part out.

That's very similar, Tim. The locking mechanism looks about the same.
I should say, my spider is not solid, more like a stamping ? The bell shaped piece over the gear is just the horn contact ring and it has 3 set screws that go around the gear. The center piece also has a tab opposite the lock where the spider screws on. (See my last pic)
The one you showed looks more like a solid spider and a little different mount.
Might be the same company though, just a different model.
